What would you do - New X5 or current X5

I know this is a M3 forum which I do currently own a e92 M3

I have a dilemma....deciding if I should pick up the current X5 or the next one starting production in Aug 2013.

I love the current body style but the interior is very simple and the recent new bmws are nicer inside......

Current X5 looks better than the one coming out, imo.

Get the current one. I almost never buy a new model when it first comes out because manufacturers never put their best foot forward at the start. Mid-cycle usually lends itself to having all the bugs worked out as well as cool new option packages.

New one - i bet the interior will be nicer, at the very least. Personally, I like what they did with the exterior.

Personally would go for the new one because would be too hung up on the novelty of it. I have a 2012 x5 diesel though and love it and others have very valid points about buying a well developed model. It sounds/drives awesome, get excellent mileage (relatively), and is perfect balance of size/utility/sportiness. Hopefully you can get a significantly better deal on the outgoing model as well.

I would get the current version. Not a fan of the plus sizing of the new variant. I don't need or want a suburban. I have the current and will trade for the e70 diesel at some point.

If you're planning on long term owning it, get the current one. Seems like the first year of any BMW has issues that get worked out during the LCI.

The current X5 looks pretty nice with the Nappa dash. Brushed aluminum trim or the bamboo.

I've seen this issue come up before and the response is usually to lease a brand new one till the LCI comes out if you really want it. The new ones will be lighter, but they also look like giant X3s. If I had more money I'd get a current one since the M3 is a dumb choice for a daily driver here in New England - but I can't help myself!

Depends on how much you like current LCI X5...which I think are pretty sweet. I got my first gen X5 (E53) in its last yr of production knowing new one was coming out. That's because I fell in love with it when it first came out and it wasn't until its last Year of production that I could afford one. I wanted to fulfill my dream. I decided to leAse and opted to buy when lease was up. While newer X5 was of course better, I was satisfied with my good ole E53. I'm 5'5" and was happy how it fit me. Every next gen was getting bigger. I'm sure ill be happy in current X5, but any bigger and I might as well go for a Q7 or GL series.

I recently went through this same decision when trading in my e53. Overall I didn't like the styling of the upcoming X5, but it's never the same in person.

I drove a few e70's and when I finally drove a sport package, I was sold. The e70 with the adaptive drive system is the most incredible X5 I've driven, and I've owned 3. If you are considering the e70 definitely test the sport package w/adaptive drive, it may change your perspective.

Yep, if you're gonna pay new car money, get the new car.

If factory incentive is huge on the remaining '13, then do it. Otherwise, I can't really see too much change (except for interior's gadgets).

Not a fan of the new style X5, so I would go with the current shape.
But then thats just personnel taste.

As others have said, most of the bugs with the current one should be worked out too.

Thanks for all the input. Local dealer is offering 1500 above invoice and with loyalty credit of $750 if you use there financing.

The decision would be much easier if i could see the new X5 in person as well as the inside. I don't mind the front but the back looks hideous.

Some of us have both and I would get the current one. Prices are great.
