Protons anyone? You don't get to see this every day

Our proton system is almost ready to deliver treatments. 15 ton Cyclotron moves 3 stories around the treatment room on huge gantry arms.

Proton system used for treating cancer. The room with the table is the treatment area. The big cylinder is the cyclotron. I system of magnetic fields that accelerate the protons to roughly 230MeV. Protons and other charged particles deposit energy at very discreet depths in tissue. (Bragg peak) Very little entrance dose and very little exit dose. Excellent for treating children whose cells are still rapidly dividing. This allows us to pinpoint only the tumor area and avoid the good tissue.

As that big cylinder rotates in a 180 degree arc the magnetic fields have to be adjusted. Some of what's in the pictures is what sends the signal for adjustment. That 15ton cyclotron is moved with mm accuracy. It's an amazing technology for treatment, but also an incredible marval of engineering.

Medical technology is so rapidly advancing. In three years this will probably be obsolete.

A proton, an electron, & a neutron walk into a bar...
The proton orders a shot, drinks it, then takes out his wallet and pays the bartender. The electron orders a shot, drinks it, then takes out his wallet and pays the bartender.
The neutron orders a shot, drinks it, then takes out his wallet... but the bartender stops him and says, "Wait...for you, no charge!"

So basically a particle accelerator that shoots the particles into cancer and fits in a room.
