Older 5 or new E90?

Hi everyone. Just wanted to see if you guys help me decide. This is the situation, I have about 6 months left on a lease of a 2003 530i. The specs are: 2003 530i, it has only 11k miles, sports suspension, automatic, actually every option except for nav. The payoff will be $28,500.

Should I:
1. Keep the 5, either re-finance or just buy it.
2. Sell the 5 and get a new 330.

what would you guys do in my situation.

Thanks

You should go out and test drive a new 3 and see how it measures up to the 5 that you are used to. You are going down from a 5 to a 3, but then again, the 5 is more of a luxury sedan, and the 3 is a sport sedan. I just drove my new E90 home about three weeks ago, so you know my recommendation would be the 330i, but it's up to you. Drive a new one and see. Good Luck!

Thanks Sharp. I know exactly what you mean since back in 2001 I traded in a 350ZX twin turbo for a new 330ci. I was very worried at first thinking I was really going to miss the power on the ZX tt, but I can honestly tell you that i did not miss the Z at all. The complete pkg delivered by the 3 of power, handling, luxury, etc. completely erased how I felt for the Z.

I also currently have a 2004 530i E60 (new style) and I don't like that car. Too much of the "buick" feeling when driving it. Another reason I miss the 3 series...

OK guys, this is what I did, since I really like my E39, and I also have an E60 which I hate, really crappy car, well I got rid of the E60 and ...

got a 2006 E90 330i Premium, Sports, Manual. All I can say about that car is WOW!!!

You guys need to test drive one!

So I will probably now keep the E39 because that car is also WOW!!!!

I will post pictures soon!!!!

Thanks... :rocks:

Just sold a '92 525i 5 speed which I had for 13 yrs. Loved the car and was going to replace with 2005 525i - 6spd. Just happen to see the new style 330i which was a 6 speed... took it for a test drive and WOW.. a real sports car feeling. The 5 series was way bigger than the '92 and felt too soft of a ride... not like the sports car feeling years ago! I suggest for everyone to test drive the new 3-Series... you might fall in love and save money by buying the smaller car. FYI... measurements inside the new 330i is exactly the same size as my '92 525i.......much more area than the OLD series!

I drove a 02 540i and it just doesn't match up to my '06 330i. You can tell there is a huge weight difference in each car. The 540i that I drove was an auto and had a touchy accelerator (it was like drag racing to each light). Overall I preferred my 330i even though the 540i had a bigger engine and M package (but not a M5).

03&04Owner, thanks for the pic!

I was just wondering about the size of the E90 compared to the E39 with my friend.. do you still have the E39 around in your parking lot ? If so, is it possible to get a pic of the two cars from head on or any other pics with them next to each other just to get a better idea of how the two stack up in size... if you have the time to do it that is

I do still have the E39. I will post better pictures. We have just been having nasty rainy weather, (South Florida). As soon as I can I will post pictures of them side by side.

the best way is to test drive the e90 and then see for yourself

Good decision! I went from an E39 to E90 and have no regrets at all.

Ok I know that I said I would take pictures like 3 months ago... but that's what a 6 months old baby would do to you, sometimes a month goes by and it feels like a day, i don't even remember my name anymore , anyway, here they are...

great pics ! thanks !! it puts the cars size into a better perspective for me

on a side note, I always thought the E39 5 series was one of the best styled BMWs ever, it has a certain agressive and unhappy face on it.. and I think the E90 sitting side by side looks just as agressive and maintains the BMW traditiion well !
