Two dead, at least 4 injured in shooting at a Los Angeles-area high school

I notice these only make the news if the school is in a nice area. If it's in the hood you won't hear about it.

People are bad with numbers. You have an absurdly low chance of getting shot pretty much anywhere in the USA especially at a school.

This stuff should be censored from the news not promoted on the headlines. It just generates fear and inspires copycats. But it brings lots of traffic to news organizations so god help us.

School security is lacking in many areas. My company supports technology for school districts so I'm in and out of a lot of schools/administrative buildings in different areas. Surprisingly the schools in a lot of low income areas have decent security. Key fob doors with cameras that can only be opened by trained security staff, etc. Meanwhile I was in a district last week that is pretty well off, and I just walked right in with no questions asked and a bunch of tools in my bag that my staff needed for a project.

next thing you know it's gonna be someone walking around with a ladder....

Feel bad for everyone that has to go through this. And I agree this shouldn't be plastered all over the main headlines. It only promotes fear and copycats.

Same can be said for all this suicide joke stuff....just desensitizes us to it.

It's the "wont happen here" mentality.

In the bad areas, you have violence happening all around you from gangs/drugs/etc. so you expect it to happen and plan for it. In the well off areas you dont see those things so you forget they can happen.

The same with high speed car chases. People have been complaining about it but at the end of the day, people will tune in out of curiosity that is part of human nature. You can't really have it both ways.
