Huh, didn't think about this
Not uncommon in these parts. A dry well or french drain is usually added in addition so that water isn't trapped in the pipe. The drainage hole in the elbow of the pop-up drain is crap and easily clogged. It's easily replaced w/ a plumber's T. 4" diameter drain vs maybe a 1" x 0.125" slit.

The house is starting to get back to normal after the tornado. We got new gutters installed. Went with black, its a little different but it will work with the new siding color.

We also finally got to take the damn plywood down.

Since the house is already a giant mess, we decided to have the front door moved from the living room to what was a dining room(we used it as a sitting room.)

Cleaned out the flower beds, put my flag back up, and tightened up the front porch a bit. Its starting to look a lot better.

Since we moved the door, the sitting room will now be an entry room. We decided to move everything we had in there to our small guest room. No one is going to come stay with us since we have 8 month old twins, so an office is a better use of the room.

Not everyone's style I know, but my wife and I love it. It will be nice to have a clean kid free room to get some work done in, or just have a drink. The other benefit of this room, is that I can shut the door and keep the kiddos out of my bar when they start moving on their own.

Looking good. Really like the re-purposed old TV cabinet.

Of all the work I've put into my place...the coolest thing just done was not completed by me. My 75 yr old father in law ripped out the corner of my porch...and put this in. Internally, it has re-purposed fire bricks from the J&L Pittsburgh steel mill. He also cut and faced each stone by hand...a true lost art.

Total awesomeness...cant wait to fire it up.

My easy project for Memorial Day. Has some weird thorn plant, that never flowered, and grew 6' if not cut and some dying plants under the palms from the previous owners.

Wife and I hit up a local nursery and got some new stuff (I don't remember the names except the Crotons -yellow/green leaves). Major difference - was a bitch digging through some roots though.

Obviously Before top, After bottom

So after 4 months of delays I'm finally moved into the new house. However, the builder has not completed their long punch list of remaining items, so no new pictures to add just yet.

However, I did just make a few new home theater purchases. Unfortunately the tv wall mount isn't delivered until Monday, so for now I'm just waiting.

I love doing project like that with my father-in-law, who is also in his mid-70s. Guys like that grew up in a time when you got creative with the tools and supplies you had on hand or could scavenge. These days you make 14 trips to Home Depot to get one project done and just buy what you need, because you can. I have a ton of respect for guys like him and always learn some cool new way of solving a problem when I do a project with him.

Wait - I'm not the only one that needs to do this? 4 trips yesterday just to put some cabinets up in the garage.

Agree though - guys pulls out a chisel and a hammer and faces the bricks to perfection.

Let us know how you like the tv. The wife and I are in the market for a new TV for our family room and we have an older 65in Sony smart tv (bought in 2016). Apps and smart features seem to be very outdated and it has a hard time staying connected to the internet. Thanks!

California Closets are in!

Mudroom before & after. Just need to order a cushion for the bench and I'll probably paint that vent grey to match.

Laundry room. Cabinet on the far end had to be narrowed a bit to fit, so new door is on order.

Master closet. Waiting on the stone countertop for the vanity and still have to mount the backlit vanity mirror. The LG Styler is out of frame on the right just inside the door.

There were matching bushes in these spaces previously. The black tubes were SUPPOSED to be for deep watering, but wife decided no more in-ground plants AFTER completed

It's light trowel textured and for some reason the camera picks it up a lot. You can barely notice the texture in person.

Building a tree house for my soon to be 4yr old daughter next month! The tree house is farther along than this picture but I should have it completed by this weekend, waiting on a few things to arrive.

Let me know how it goes please. I have to get my gutters cleaned. I started a thread here a few weeks back asking about Leaf Filters.

How do they prevent the filters from getting covered with leaves or clogged with mildew? Interested in knowing, but not so much so that I researched.
