Unhappy ► Failed PMP Exam

studied intense for a month solid, taking advantage of flexibility of employer allowing me to work from home.

taking the exam, i felt i was choosing logical answers and rarely felt hestitant about an answer.

when you click the "Finish" button heart was pounding anxiously waiting for the result only to see the unfortunate news .

regardless, i now know what an actual exam is like and the testing environment. going to continue studying and plan on passing on 2nd attempt.

just a shock and worst feeling in the world right now

Keep plugging away bud. I had to take the series 7 two times before I got a passing grade. I am never a fan of the Finish button. it makes me sweat and feels like FOREVER while the thing spins.
Also when are you allowed to take it again?

I felt the same way when I took my CEH exam. I studied lightly but blew off the nmap commands. I typically use the GUI so I don't really need to memorize them. I failed by four points and realized if I had taken the time to memorize the command strings, I would have passed, even if barely.

^ the first exam is $405 (pmi member) and you can schedule re-exam at 24 hours after.

2nd try is another $275 and if you were to take it again for a 3rd time it is another $275. failure to pass on 3rd attempt you must wait 1 year before retaking it.

the current version expires end of the year and next year starts version 6 which adds a whole bunch more information.

the worst part of the exam, aside from waiting to see if you passed/failed, is they don't give you a score % rather a bar with a passing line and where you fall on it.

Felt the same way with my CISSP. Just try again now that you know exactly how the exam is.

Stay after it but I can sympathize

I just spent Sat and Sunday in a CPP Prep Course, two full days.

They gave a timed 50 quest/50 minute exam at the end. It required 33 for a pass and that is what I got. I still feel like an idiot. But, the value for me was like you, I learned what the exam scenario would be like.

Now I have to prep, a lot.

CompTIA exams are some of the easier ones. They want your money each year for cert renewals.....as do they all, but I think CompTIA cents are primarily journeyman level certifications. I have Security+. I keep it up to date simply because I can use the CEs for CISSP and CCISO for it and a year.

I got Net+ or something DECADES ago. I took the test as my blood sugar was crashing (sometimes struggle to remember my name) and still got 100. I think they even asked some DOS commands and I had to point to the hard drive in a case

...can't tell if serious...

Studying for a month is nothing. There is a series of exams that take 5+ months of intense studying to pass for my profession. Takes most people 5+ years to finish all of them... 5+ years of intense studying.

Put in twice the effort you think you need to and there should be a little more margin for error next time.

Half of the stuff in the PMBOK never gets used in real projects anyhow. Moneymaker for PMI. The designation does help you get in the door though.

I got f`d with the PMP audit in June that delayed me after taking the crash course...then I was going to take it in august, but got f'd with a shit losing project that a previous PM had. Now need to get back on the horse and start all over. Was getting 75% on my tests before I stopped last month...but feel I forgot everything.

Needless, I feel for you...I know it's not an easy route anymore. Main issue is knowing what phase in the project you are when reading the question.

I'm taking the PMP course now, and the teacher recommended the IIIL "PM Coach" app ($10). It helps you study on the go.

Sorry to hear that man. I've heard from soo many people that the PMP has gotten a lot harder. I passed and obtained the cert back in 2010 and at the time it seemed like a breeze. I know about 6 people who have failed the PMP exam in just the past 2 years. Apparently, PMI (the writers of the exam) really did make it a lot harder....

I know how you feel. After I studied for the CGFM exam for a year, and after passing 2/3 tests, I failed the last and hardest test twice and then the examination period expired. So, I was looking at taking all three tests again. It was such a bummer for the longest time, and I had to move on. It wasn't for me.

You just have to keep trying at it/moving along to the next. I finally got accepted to graduate school and now I couldn't care less about that CGFM, lol

Good luck with your retry.

Just read the RITAs book a few times. That's what I did. Also there is an Indian guy on Youtube Sanket Bansal, his video's are awesome and really help clarify the process areas. Damn critical path is tough, but his videos helped. Thanks
