55" TV -- any recommendations?
Looking to replace my 55" Samsung TV that is slowly failing with another 55". Like many, I am a sucker for high definition, crisp images to hook up to my Bose sound system. So what you folks recommend?

A lot of good brands. Sony, LG, Samsung. Only brand I personally would not by is TLC. I have a 20+ year old Panasonic plasma I've been wanting to fail so I can buy a new one for the living room.
My latest (1.5 yr old) is a LG oled c2 series. Think the c3 series is the latest. Beautiful picture. Their OS (think it's called LG os) is good. Picture is stellar. Remote control fairly straightforward. So, go oled. Sony oled has great reviews as well. PS. Buy from Costco if u can. Great warranty and return policy.

The only downside is the 600w it uses to both show us the image and to help heat the house!

We replaced a 50” plasma with a 65” LG OLED 4K UHD a few years back and really like it. We have a cheap 55” Samsung LED in a vacation condo and there is no comparison between the two. We also have an 49” LG Nanocell LED in the bedroom in the condo and it is quite good - better than the Samsung.
Overall, shopping for a TV involves too many choices of technologies and TV models, which change pretty quickly.

Focus you research on a dumb TV, so you can tell me what/where/how much for my next TV. So sick of smart TVs, just rather use Roku, Fire Stick, Chromecast.

RTINGS.com does a great job if you want to get into the technical.
https://www.rtings.com/tv A ton of different factors come into play as you can imagine. Room brightness, distance, height, use case, etc. We'll be moving into our new place soon. Planning to "convert" one of the rooms into a media room with optimal placement, lighting, etc. being at the forefront. This TV will be a dedicated machine to movies and the "experience." But in the main room in the common space, there is a tremendous amount of natural light with 15 or so windows, and we'll be mounting a 75" TV over the fireplace. For that room, I'm more concerned with the UI and OS being fantastic with "good enough" picture quality. So I guess the answer is... depends on your planned use? |

Those Panasonics won't die. Mine is almost 20 years old as well and has moved houses once. It still works great and heats up the house in the winter.

I had a 42" plasma I bought probably 20 years ago. Thing was unstoppable. We got tired of moving it and gave it to Goodwill. Probably warming someone's house to this day.

Bright room TV mainly since it would be facing three windows. I do not have any other TVs throughout so this will be my main one. 55" is good enough for me...

I currently have a few Samsung’s, LG’s, Panasonic’s and a single Sony.
I don’t rate the Sony, Samsung and LG pictures are great, but don’t like either interface. The Panasonic’s have the best picture and user interface in my opinion and are my favourite TV’s overall, but with a couple of issues. On the older one, since one of the streaming services here in the UK updated their app, can no longer run it, and the newer one takes a long time to load the guide, but once loaded is great. There is no perfect TV, so it will be about compromising on those bits that are least important to you.

OLED, QD-OLED > * (what's currently available mainstream)
Many brands use LG OLED panels, including Samsung. If you're looking for the best, IMO (and the opinions of many reviewing sites), that's it. OLEDs are the replacement for what plasmas represented during their time. Amazingly fast response and true blacks. |

55" for office 70"-77" for living room in bright space (tough to find a 70") 80"-85" for media room I've been finding this tool helpful when I see a couple that are finalists. https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/ |
