I may be in the minority here but I don't think these cars are overpriced at all. They really are THAT good

Sounds absolutely amazing. Even with all of this power, it still seems reasonably well balanced. What an awesome machine!

Drool…

If it weren’t for potentially ruinous maintenance/repairs, I’d have one already.

Love our one! E39 M5's are such great cars once you keep on top of all the maintenance.

E39 M5 is obviously an amazing car, among the best really.

I'm suspicious though, when someone claims 600 hp RWD and it dead hooks hard shifts into 2nd gear on cold damp roads. Maybe a lack of midrange torque from the centrifugal blower?

The wheels are about 10mm too far outboard in the rear. Makes it look rather immature.

Sorry to sound negative, but IMO it's difficult to mod a car like that without spoiling it. Changes should be very carefully considered, because the car is so right to begin with.

I've owned an e39 m5 for 16 yrs and it's been supercharged since 2009. Dyno proven 550whp (red line on the graph). It's been a great car.

All E39 M5's were 6MT. No need to specify.

He's usually very talkative during his presentations. And during this one he didn't even say a word.

Let the car do the talking just as it should be. Well done.

Not going to lie - I'll love every post about the E39. I've owned a MT E39 528, then 530, and then, finally in 2004 I found my perfect 2002 E39 M5. It has long since been retired from DD duties (which it did superbly from 2004 - 2016), but I remember the first time I drove it every time I drive it. Not so fast anymore, but timeless.

I have only respect for those who want more from this platform, but mine will remain stock forever. And, I think, the better for it. In an era where a hot hatch can get to 60 mph faster, I'm just going to enjoy the ride.
