I would have preferred a M4 Gran Coupe. You'd think with the popularity of Audi's RS5 Sportback it'd be a no brainer.

Well this is gonna get expensive. I’m gonna ignore the grille entirely - because that’s the best thing ever. Depending on price - B3 Touring with a decent spec is £70k without the stupid nose so.... let’s see

As with the claims made just a few days ago buy another BMW news source, what made that report seem unlikely was the timeline. It simply made no sense for BMW to roll out a model like this so near the end of the life for that generation of the vehicle. However, we've now learned that they've actually had this model secretly in development for awhile now, and they can therefore bring it to market in about two years, which means mid 2022. That timeframe makes a lot more sense since it can be timed with the G20/G21/G80 LCI, giving it about three and half years on the market.

Of course, one could still ask why BMW didn't move even quicker if they intended to pursue bringing a G81 M3 Touring to market, planning instead to deliver it in tandem with the G80 M3 Sedan model rather than more than year after. I don't know the answer to that, but I would speculate that it might have something to do with Flasch's priorities since he took the helm at M Division. Of course, I'm sure he'd love for it to be ready sooner, but I suspect that pushing it through so it could be out by LCI was something he put no small amount of effort into. Otherwise, it may have had to wait until he following generation, and who knows what the market will look like then.

A bit too late. It could have looked great in prior models...now they choose the most controversial one?

Oh wow!!! The wagon seems interesting. That wide rear end will definitely make it interesting. Need to look into this.

I bought this instead. I now have two years to get my shit together - so should I sell both the F80 and C63 S and buy an M3 touring? Plus another car.?

I wish BMW did official pre-order deposits like other manufacturers do. In this case it would mean being clearer about whether this car is coming to the US or not but I would gladly put my chips in now and wait 2 years. If only...

BMW is making a shit-ton of money on SUVs. Why can't this subsidize wagons here in the US? Isn't that how MB and Audi do it?
If so, I'd be driving this...
we have dogs and the step up into the tail of SUVs is too high.

This is the scary part. If they use the same grille as with M3 and M4 they will aesthetically destroy it.

If they don't however, given the homogeneity of M3/M4 in the past two iterations it will be a huge admission on their part that grille design was a failure. Not sure they are prepared to concede that yet.

Local shop in Richmond VA called Delta V took a total M3 and lots of parts and built one. Just got finished. AMAZING!

I can't imagine what this would pull on Bring a Trailer......
