Mowing lawns at 14-15 and also delivering newspapers. Delivering papers required some self-discipline; had to get up at something like 4 in the morning to go fetch the bundle, assemble the papers and then walk the route. But for the first time in my life, I had money other than the meager allowance my parents gave me.

When you’re in college and new to the area and a beautiful young woman walks up to you on a sunny day dressed in a jean skirt and asks if you want a job opening a new store - well, that’s how I ended up working at A&F. Worked out great - met loads of college girls I’d have never met at the school.

Bagging groceries at Winn Dixie for $4.25/hr. Worked there about a year and got a massive .10c raise. Then they started having me close nearly every night. I was part time and working 33hr a week and close was 9 and usually done around 1030. I was still in school and sick of it so I started installing car audio and working around 60 hours a week. Got sick of that and joined the Navy and worked about 90 hours a week.

^I stocked frozen food at Winn Dixie as my first official job on my own, that my parents didn't get me (farm work was for my Uncle and my grandpa). I was 15. It was not cool, but was definitely cold

My first job was when I was 16~. Worked at a local Dunkin' Doughnuts for I think 6 months. Walked out the back door(after I was told to paint the drop-down ceiling since the building inspector was coming in the next day) and never showed up after

I grew up on a farm, so if you could walk - there was something for you to do. When you could press in a clutch AND see over the steering wheel at the same time - you were driving something every day. Hard work, but would not change it for the world.

I started as a caddy at one of the local country clubs at 12. the following summer, moved into the bag room/ cart barn and range position. it was a great first job. minimum wage, but usually walked out of a shift with $30-$50 in tips (more on weekends with shotgun events).

Although I'm not a member there now, I have a few friends that are. I thoroughly enjoyed playing there for the first time in recent years and having my old boss from 25 years ago be the one to grab my bag to put on the cart and refer to me as "sir" haha. He was kind of a dick and on a power trip over managing 13-18 year old kids.

I'm surprised I'm the first one with a golf course job.

I lived a three-minute walk from a golf course on an Army base. I don't know who caddied for those officers, but IIRC, they weren't using golf carts back then (early 60s).

It was a beautiful course in the Presidio of San Francisco. My buddies and I would cut across the fairways when we were headed to the base's beach or to the Golden Gate Bridge. The players were cool – none of that "get off my lawn stuff!" from them.

When I was in grade school, dad paid me 25 cents a week. He called it an allowance. Funny thing was, I had to mow the lawns, empty the trash cans (and burn some of it) and wash the evening dishes. It seems my allowance was really a wage or salary.

My daughter is 12, started a part time job at 11 working at a horse barn. When your first job is shoveling $hit, well that’s just about the best preparation for life a dad could ask for.

Memory is a bit foggy going back that far but very 1st job I was paid for was working for my grandfather. He was a carpentry contractor back in the 70s,I was 7 or 8yrs old. I'd get all the tools out of the vehicle,get them setup inside and then be a gopher the rest of the day. Learned a hell of a lot.

2nd job was cutting our grass. Then a few neighbors asked if I could do there's. Learned a valuable lesson at the ripe old age of 10: discuss pricing before starting. Old bastard across the street asked if I would cut his lawn for $5 a pop,for the entire summer whilst they were away sailing. He came back,I handed him my little homemade invoice for 10 cuts x $5=$50. He laughed at me and said sorry young man,that $5 price as for the entire summer.
He was strong-armed by my grandpa and delightfully paid me the $50.

3rd job was busboy at local diner when I was 15 and got working papers,then quit that to go pump gas for more money and have use of the mechanic bays after hours since now I had a license and a street bike.

4th job was at a big pharma plant when I was 18 as a "supplier",was great as I had a lot of down time and I was only their temporarily until as I was waiting to be called into the apprentice class of Plumbers Local 14 Jersey City

Got in the Plumbers Union in 1992 and retired a Journeyman master plumber,certified pipe welder and semi-old-man after I was forced to retire with substantial permanent medical issues after an on the job accident at American Dream Mall in NJ involving a 21' length of 8" carbon steel weld pipe,in 2020

When I was 13, my dad told me I could get my license at 16 and have any car I wanted, I just had to pay for it myself.

I was already mowing my grandma's lawn by then, so that turned in to me going there every weekend and mowing her lawn and a bunch of the neighbors on her street. Around that time I also started working on a farm next door after school. I learned how to run and fix machinery, did a lot of mowing, woodcutting, etc.

At 16 I worked at the local Dunkin after school. Shitty job, but made a ton of friends since we were all around the same age and fooled around on closing shift when it was quiet. Our manager was the oldest one there at 23. I still have some of those friends to this day, 17 years later.

After that I worked an internship while in college, and one summer I did both Dunkin and the internship which really sucked. Been in the corporate world since then and now academia.

That's a long time ago, I had a bunch of jobs and can't remember which was first. My mother managed a jewelry store in Toronto, I'd work there running errands, cleaning up etc. I got a job at Collegiate Sports on the sales floor, and sometimes at the warehouse. I delivered flyers for an appliance rental company with a couple of friends. I think we were 14. And I worked several summers taking off the hay on my uncles farm. $50 for the whole summer, I started that when I wall 11 or 12 as I recall.

I transferred medical data at a hospital from an obsolete reel-to-reel system to optical disks. It was the summer after I graduated HS.

The good: triple minimum wage, with unlimited overtime.

The bad: They kept the room at 55F, and my fingers went numb (couldn't type) after about 4 hours of work.

13-15 yrs old in the 60's worked for my dad in his car radio repair shop, quite the group of characters that came in and out of there and hung out. The shop was right around the corner from Yale's Payne Whitney gym. He also owned an apartment building over the shop and rented out a liquor store that was run by a bookie. I learned a lot about humans.
