If you care and maintain your wheels, you can use off-the-shelf hybrid sealant products. $15 and apply after every good wash.

Yes, I usually just use the same soap (Reset) Iused on the car. However, this was after using Sonax Wheel Cleaner.

Whatever you do, do not coat the inside of the wheels.

I ceramic coated the inside of the barrels, now wheel weights will not stick to the surface when the brakes heat up the wheels on track. The weights fly off and damage the wheel, brakes and other cars behind me. I have had to use duct tape over the wheel weights to keep them on the wheel.

Getting my new car ceramic coated as we speak, and given the small extra charge I am also getting my wheels ceramic coated. Have had that done in the past to 2 sets of my wheels and give how much the M brakes like to dust, it really makes the cleaning/washing much easier.
I have also personally coated a new set of wheels, but mostly because they were brand new and off the car already. So as other have said, definitely a nice to have, and do it yourself if you can.

I did it myself with Gyeon Rims when I swapped out my summers for winter set up. Took a long ass time for each wheel but I had it in the living room. The prep as usual takes 3x as long vs the ceramic coating application.

absolutely worth it, makes cleaning so mich easier and i don't need that strong wheel cleaner, just the same shampoo i use on the car

Wow 500$ done professionally for that price I would say no not at all. I'm about to ceramic coat mine and the CarPro DLUX kit is 40$ USD lol. This is why I DIY everything. It's insane the price people charge. I understand labor is involved and it's what makes prices go up but damn for that price yeah not worth IMO. Some people really charge grossly eh.

You should try and see if you could get a refund if you can't notice anything difference with the wheels coated.

If you already waxed/sealed your wheels when washing the car it is essentially the same thing, that could be why you see no difference. Although a ceramic will be more solvent resistant and last much longer.

Ha yeah this is why I'm coating mine after mounting the tires.

A trick though for your situation, try going over the coated area with some polish, that should remove the coating. Don't have to do it for the whole wheel just the areas where you want to stick the weights.

The paint on the wheels are very durable and any wax or sealant will be good and have the same "easy to clean" effect.

Save your time and money for the actual paintwork.

I coated the face and under the lip before having the tires mounted, when they were brand new minimal dirt. It probably would have been good to use a little polisher and correct the surface before doing the coating. I then did the barrels after the weights were on.

I've only had them on for about a week, the brake dust got noticeable so I sprayed them with the geon iron cleaner when st the carwash. The stuff is expensive and I only had a small bottle so I was being conservative with it. I probably need to buy more use it really generously . Then the pressure washer didn't have any soap that day, every time at that place, I get ripped off and leave with a dirty car. So I still had to microfiber some of the dirt off, which I'm kind of pissed about. Hoping next time with more of the cleaner and a working soap carwash I don't have to touch them.

You should be able to clean your wheels with car soap most of the time. I fill my wheel bucket with soap and use a microfiber wheel mitt for the face and brush intricate areas. Having them coated should be even better. The Iron cleaner doesn't need to be used every time, it's really more for embedded brake dust that you don't regularly maintain. You can still 100% use it just a bit of waste IMO.

For some reason a lot of people believe they need Sonax wheel cleaner every wash. As long as you aren’t letting that brake dust sit on the wheels for months and months at a time car soap, proper brushes, and effort (I know you have to work for it wahhh) will get the wheels clean.

Sonax works great and is Ph neutral...

I did my own wheels when they were new, needs another coat now 3yrs later. Will probably do it this summer when I have time. Did the calipers too... The ceramic coating doesn't prevent dirt/dust from clinging, buy it certainly makes cleaning them tons easier! Is it worth it? I think so. As a DIY project. $500 for 4-6 hours work? It all depends what your time is worth to you. Remember nobody is going to do it like you would when it's your own. But if a reputable shop, I'd probably go for it!

You'll go broke using Sonax with every wash. I keep a bottle around in case my wheels get really bad but otherwise it makes more sense to use a cheaper product to maintain the cleanliness.

I use my car on track so I go through a set of tires every 6 months or so. It would be pretty impractical to polish certain sections as needed to install wheel weights each time. The tire installers sprayed the whole barrel with solvent/adhesive remover but it has little effect on the ceramic coating.

The solution right now is using aluminum foil tape that they use for heat ducting from the hardware store. It holds the weights in place under high heat. The extra adhesive surface area also helps keep the weights in place. It looks rather ugly but once the barrels are covered in brake dust after a few laps, you can't see it.

This was a non issue in street driving, so for the majority of people, ceramic coating the inside should be ok.

I didn't pay to have them done. The guys that did them did the PPF and as they had the car for a week, said they'd do the wheels one evening.
