[QUOTE=dcstep;10757335]For such a beautiful setting and nice light, why wouldn't you use natural colors? Just wondering. I see a lot of people doing this and I just don't understand the objective. Great composition and exposure, BTW.

I like to get as natural as I can:

That is a beautiful picture.

Thanks for the compliments on my Snake River gorge photo.
However, the light wasn't very favorable, with the photo taken directly into the setting sun. It actually was starting to get pretty dark.
I usually favor mild HDR myself (as in the Yellowstone pool), but in the case of this picture, I thought that it came out better using tone compression instead of details enhancer. The color does have a purple tinge, but I thought that it didn't look too bad. I think that in the case of this picture, the colors of the sunset were reflected better in the river than they were in the sky.
Non-HDR picture shown here for comparison:

No, I'm already home. We did Sedona and the GC.

Here's a Sedona shot:

Another massive crop, this is about 85% crop, I was about a mile away from this at the other side of a quarry. There is some slight HDR going on here (still learning my way around it) just to see what i could do with it.

I'm really enjoying the sharpness of the 7D lately with a touch of noise reduction it's bringing some neat results. May also be the new lens i'm getting used to as well.

at 100% crop on this picture you can read it saying "CATERPILLAR" on the top of the window. I was surprised atmosphere didn't really interrupt the sight line that much.

Just got back from a three week trip to South Africa and Mozambique. Still working on sorting through and processing the thousands of pictures I took. If you want to see more, check the set out in Flickr. I'll be updating it as I go.

Nice shot, fluidkaos. Looking forward to more.

And Judd, she's a stunner. I like the PP work, too. Was it really that foggy?

fluidkaos, I'm glad you shot that with your telephoto... sick shot!

Dave, I can't remember if I've asked you this before... but do you ever use any filters when you shoot?

Thanks guys!

It's film, and it was very thick and gray that day by the lake. I did, however, add a lens flare render, and now I can't remember why. Once you notice it, it looks rather fake.

Anyone have experience with lens flare renders? I want to be able to add that burst of light without the little light circles.

Thanks guys. I did the vast majority of my safari shooting with my 80-400 lens, but at times the animals were so close I couldn't fit them in frame even zoomed out all the way, like the big guy pictured below. At one point he was within arms reach of the truck. That leopard shot was taken at 300mm, and he was about 15 feet away.
