Someone in the HOA beside me bought a Hummer EV

Just another giant EV as a fashion statement. Surprised these sell at the amount they cost.

I just saw a Cybertruck for the first time this evening. I don't know if it was the tri-motor Beast unit with 834 HP or the regular, dual-motor 600 HP unit, but it certainly makes quite the statement. This in a part of the country where people who can afford to are seriously not into splashing out.

The only equivalent in that regard that I've seen after seven years down here was a Maserati MC20 last year. He was in traffic on a heavily-traveled interstate beltway that's a commuting corridor a good deal of the day and was attempting to move through as quickly as possible. Not possible. The last I saw he was on the right shoulder moving out of sight. I've lived in parts of the country where that's accepted as a legitimate move, but not around here.

What struck me the most about the MC20, however, is that the car is so low that the owner, when in traffic, isn't looking at bumpers like the usual low-slung car are; instead, he's looking underneath the line of cars in front of him. No wonder the dealer has a nice selection of used MC20s with virtually no miles on them.

Saw my first Cybertruck yesterday. Smaller than I thought. Had black accents (spoilers) more silly stuff. Driven by college kit. Typical around here.

Hummers were very popular here years ago. I haven’t seen any in years. It seems they didn’t have repeat customers as I haven’t seen any on the road lately. An employee of a tenant at my business just got one. (EV). Pretty funny. It’s stupid wide so she parks in the handicapped spot. She has a handicap permit which she never had/used with her previous car. Curious how you qualify for a handicap permit when you can climb in and out of a Hummer. I really don’t care but what a scam. She’s probably 20 years younger than I am and by no means needs a handicap placard.

Back in the early 90s, I had a 2nd floor office in the downtown of a West Coast city and got in to work early each morning. That block had parking on one side, and shortly after I arrived every morning, a fellow would park just below my window in a space reserved for drivers with handicap placards. After exiting his vehicle, he would jog up the inclined street to wherever he was headed. In his defense, however, this was in the city in which I grew up and that had by then long since become chock full of corner-cutters who didn't need to worry about being made to behave themselves.

I hate people who get away with that shit. I've mentioned before here that my neighbor has a handicapped placard as well. There's nothing wrong with her either, but she's still got one.

I have chronic arthritis flareups in my feet. Nothing serious but when they hit I get a pretty good limp. I'd get a placard but I'm too lazy and I kind of enjoy limping past the able bodied folks who sheepishly jump out of their handicapped spots when clearly I could use one.

On topic, we have a few Hummer EVs around here. The owners do seem kind of young for a vehicle at that price point.

Just in case you're asking, I've lived next to this lady for 31 years. There's nothing wrong with her.

Same with the fleet of trucks that park in our handicapped spots at work. But I'm not their physician so maybe they have agoraphobia

This lady does whatever she can to get away with stuff. She's always trying to pull something. This is just another one of her scams. It's all too obvious... at least to me.

PS - I think those placards are too easy to get. It's not fair to the people who really need them.

Those of us with invisible handicaps such as heart failure are constantly judged for using their handicapped parking permit. It isn't a scam, and I avoid using mine most of the time because of this judgement.

I can climb into the almost Mighty Freightliner with no problem on most days, but don't ask me to climb a flight of stairs or walk/stand for more than a few minutes at a time without a huge struggle or falling down.....
