Garage updates

Having a proper garage set up has always been a dream of mine. I lived in a a number of condo's my entire life (literally- since the day I was brought home from the hospital). My wife, is completely opposite. Having only lived in a house, she was not budging on her stance of "house only" when it came time to raising our family.

I finished all necessary (and costly) repairs and renovations to our new home, and then took the Garage project on.

Custom cabinetry and work bench area were installed about 6 months ago, but NOW is the real game changer….

2 ton AC Unit, for the garage ONLY. South Florida heat is NO joke. And especially in the summer, you can forget about detailing your car in the day time, or night time, with the door closed. You'll either pass out of heat exhaustion or sweat all over your freshly detailed car.

Had my A/c tech for my business come to my home and fit me for a proper "mini split" unit. Interior wall mounted unit, and separate air handler outside of the house, next to the 4 ton unit to power the home itself (2800 SQ/ ft / garage not included)

Enjoy!

Hahaha .... I have a similar 2 ton split in our garage + 2 more units for the rest of the house.

June-September is brutal in South Florida ..

Nice work on the garage. Be careful backing that beast in. We don't want any scratches on the rear bumper.

Story: it was rainy I thought I put car in park went to push off the brake pedal to exit the vehicle foot slipped hit the accelerator and next thing you know... lol

The picture makes it appear much closer. I'm super cautious parking this thing anywhere- even at home. No distraction for the 10 seconds it takes to focus. Enough room for me to roll behind on my garage stool with ease!

Yea my wife tried to tell me it wasn't necessary- but I did what I usually do, nod my head "ok I get it" and then after a quick 2 weeks of waiting without mentioning it again- order the parts lol

Driving your car into the garage wall is one way to get your renovation project started ASAP lol

A garage extension might have helped prevent this damage. Looks like a 1 car garage. 24k BTU seems like a lot for that if the house is doing fine with 48k BTU but the mini split can dial down the output.

The unit is untouched. It works fine- so I'll handle the expense of putting a new one when this croaks. My tech estimated 2-3 years more on its life span.

The house interior is all re done- new ducts throughout- and foam insulation help keep it cool.

My first electric bill arrived after install and I'm only up $75 versus before. I'll take it

Two years ago, my wife and I converted a barn, built in 1860, to be our new home. One of the farm outbuildings became my new mancave. Took me a year to get it right

My garage floor was grinded down- and then epoxy applied. The whole process. Took 3 days from start to finish before I could park or walk on it. Worth every dollar

Looks very nice, OP. Is that a one car garage? Or is the wide-angle lens messing with me?

I used my AC guy from work- but all in was about 4k

Unit, hurricane slab to secure it, install, labor. And then an electrician for the 220V outlet install.

My FPL bill hasn’t had any change (I mean $20-$30 bucks)

My garage is actually a “large” 2 car garage. Wide angle messing w you. But now that my kids bikes, scooters, toys and my wife’s excessive decorations for every holiday- it is a “large” 1 car garage for me. Since I lease my secondary car.

We bought our house new and the garage was a blank canvas for me. It’s why I picked the house. I spend most of my free time in there. Mini split. Surround sound. Big screen. Polyaspartic floors. A lift. Custom cabinets. My side hustle to pay for it all was totally worth it. The doors, ceiling and walls are insulated so even in Arizona I can use it all year round as long as it’s not over 110.

I have a basic 3 car garage with a single wall outlet. I cry every time I work in my garage.

I told my wife, next house (she picked this one) I get my garage.

I considered getting an LC500 but never actually drove one. Curious how you would compare and contrast to BMW. Clearly more of a GT car but still sporty enough?

I may add a LC500 convertible at some point. Thanks.

I have a family friend that purchased the house next to his- gutted it- kept it looking like a normal “house” but made it his garage

No pics allowed. But what a play. Just when I thought my space was a man’s dream…
