Matt, nice effect with the one pod in focus. Sweet bokeh with that lens.

Never seen real nice aurora since I'm actually too south (at 59°North), while the aurora is best viewed north of the Arctic Circle at 66°North.

I think they're more common over Alaska/Canada than anywhere else. Northern Norway gets a good view but the rest of the country doesn't have an overhead view like you'd see in Alaska/Canada.
Degrees doesn't matter as much as you think. I saw one (albeit faint) from the outskirts of Madison once. They're commonly seem from Minnesota and South Dakota too on stronger days. http://www.gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast/3 http://www.gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast/4 |

Yep, always pricey to fly west. Not sure why. Going east is much cheaper. Where are you staying?

Last time we were there we stayed at the Holiday Inn on the Bay. Nice room with a great view of the bay, but the noise was ridiculous. The cruise ships would come in every night in the wee hours and they would spend the rest of the night unloading/loading them. The forking fork trucks all had backup-beepers that ran non-stop. Beep-beep-beep from midnight to 9AM. My wife went back there for a conference this past year and asked for a room facing out the back of the hotel. Screw the view.

Nice shot, Anthony. Not much feeling of speed there, though.
