This anti BMW propaganda bothers me

I realize things like this shouldn't bother me but they do:

He doesn't talk about the positives of owning a BMW and way overstates the downside. Yes some BMWs have issues, some you should steer away from if you don't do your own work, but they've dramatically improved mechanical reliability in recent models.

I wouldn't say a 10 year old BMW is as reliable as a Camry but you get a different experience and most BMWs, even 10 year old BMWs aren't terribly unreliable, especially if they've been maintained.

I like a lot of his stuff, but he thinks of cars as appliances and bases all of his judgement on the ability of a car to last 200-300K miles or more.

I have a friend with a 2008 335i that has 220,000 miles on it.

It's been through 4 HPFPs, most of those early on and 2 or 3 covered by BMW. It's had a valve cover replacement, a few door lock actuators and a window regulator but it's actually been pretty reliable.

My wife's Toyota years ago had its share of issues beyond 100k miles and I know several people with newer Rav4's that had the 4 cylinder engine completely shit the bed before 120k miles.

Of course the Toyota is more reliable. No doubt. And it is sort of possible to make a luxury car that is reliable (Lexus); but to do so Lexus stays comfortably on the side of tried and true. Nothing wrong with that.

BMW reliability compares favorably on most classes of cars when up against its competitors (MB, Audi, Jaguar, Alfa, Cadillac and Lincoln). See the various reliability ratings of Consumer Reports.

But if reliability is the principal concern, buy a stripped Toyota that is at least three years into its current model design.

No offense, you can quote the one-off circumstances all you like, but the bottom line is that the typical Honda or Toyota will have a much more reliable and less expensive life than the typical BMW.

This is exactly why the last 3 cars we got for my wife were either a Honda or Toyota.

The simpler the car, the fewer things there are that can go wrong.

He is a tool bag, most annoying automotive youtuber ever. Oh and I own a 2002 Camry with 196,000 miles and it has had plenty of issues.

And that's why the most of the general public buys Toyotas. An appliance for transportation.

I assume most of us on this board are enthusiasts who enjoy an exciting and engaging driving experience. Reliability be damned. Look at Land Rover owners.

They do, but only as a suggestion. Poor people don't need to concern themselves with where we are going.

I'd also like to add that I sold my E93 last year.......and bought a Lexus.
