F1 2021 Silly Season

As the title states, lets discuss all the potential moves and seat changes to come in this year's summer break through the end of the year. The hot one on everyone's mind is Bottas vs Russell.

Based on the interview George had before the race where he couldnt stop laughing when he was asked about his seat next year, I think its basically done and dusted.

Thoughts on this or any other driver is welcome here.

I don't see ALO and RIC switching seats any time soon, but you never know! I wonder if Zac Browne even wants ALO for a 3rd stint at McLaren, especially with the way Lando has been driving.

Agreed. Slim to none chance of this. Plus, you cant have FernANDO and LANDO on the same team.

Russell to Merc is basically done. Bottas will take up his seat at Williams again likely. MSC to alpha maybe? Anyone with cash to fill his haas seat. RAI will retire. He is past it. Most others are fairly new and long contracts so can't see much more movement really.

Bottas is looking like he is losing his position.. actually dont wanna sound vulgar but he had enough chance to beat Lewis.. 5 seasons if i remember things right.. quite a lot of time he had..

if Russell comes to Merc'.. probably there ll be another paid driver will be in his seat.. im not sure Bottas d go to Williams back again.. any team except Williams will look fine to him..

Perez will stay in Red Bull if not.. it ll be a waste.. in Hungary he wasnt that slower than Max.. 0.3xx only.. yeah track is short but tons of corners and its not an easy track to master..

Alpha Tauris will stay the same probably..

not much idea about the rest but i guess ll see a new paid + a new young talent next year..

and since Haas spends almost its all money on next years car.. pressure ll be on.. and if things wont go that right.. probably team will be sold..

if Ric makes a move i wont be surprised even if he has contract as far as i remember.. i hope he doesnt move cause thats the best seat available for him for next year..

GIO is filling the Ferrari chosen seat at Alpha. He's part of their young driver program. I don't think he has more seasons left TBH, I only think he's there because he's Italian and Ferrari want an Italian in the sport.

Renault became Alpine this year. Both have driven for Renault/Alpine at this point.

Considering how the divorce of RIC and Renault went (Cyril was pretty emotional about it) I don't think he'd be welcome back. Both drivers have a multi-year contract with their current teams and I don't see either terminating early.

I see Bottas moving to Alpha Romeo filling Kimi's seat (if Kimi retires) and GIO being dropped in favor of MSC to fill the Ferrari picked seat.

Williams may pick up another driver from the Merc program or get another pay driver to fill in George's seat if he gets moved to MB.

Sad for Ricciardo...he should have stayed at Renault/Alpine.
Gasly is surely due a better seat...anywhere but Red Bull though.

Since he is the main topic of conversation this year in terms of driver moves, lets talk about Bottas.

Like him or hate him, he seems to be a pretty stand up guy in a really tough spot.

He took the blame for the incident in T1 and apologized to each driver.

For the most part, every time he is interviewed, Lewis is brought up as a comparison.

He may be in a dominant car, but he is also against one of the best drivers of all time and is destined to be outclassed in the large majority of races.

Until this year, he does manage to grab the points for the team in most cases and picks up the win when Lewis doesn't.

He has been in a visibly difficult mental struggle with this role for 4 years now and still gives it his all even in the face of being the butt of many jokes and constantly fighting for his seat.

I want GR to get his seat next year, but part of me feels for VB. I think he has had the hardest job around in F1 for the past few years and deserves our respect no matter what happens going forward.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
He's certainly getting the short end of the deal. To me he feels like the fall boy

Agree also, but let's not forget that Mercedes team are the 'best of the best' or have been in recent years. It's a business and as nice a guy as bottas is, he just isn't cutting the mustard. He is visibly slower than Rosberg was, and hasnt really had a chance against Hamilton from day 1. They need someone fresh, post-hamilton retirement and exciting. He is a good wingman but he has stagnated. Some flurries of greatness in qualifying but when he has a racing challenge in front of him 9 times out of 10 he bottles it. It's a hard game but he just hasn't got the edge a top team expects I think.

What do you mean they had their fill of him, LOL. He was doing well at McLaren and he left on his own accord. Sounds to me like you have a beef with anyone you perceive is against Ham. Yes, he won't be at any Honda team and Yes, he won't be at Mercedes because Ham for sure would veto it. He is most likely to stay at Alpine. As far as RIC, it's on him why he is not delivering at McLaren. Definitely better than either the Ferrari or Alpine.

Ermm...I guess you guys get a different perspective in the USA.
This is Alonso who tried to blackmail McLaren first time round.
Second time at McLaren, Alonso whined incessantly about the Honda PU in the McLaren so much so that Honda later would not allow him to race in any team powered by a Honda PU in the USA.
Alonso is back in one of the few teams who will have him.
Also no need to be a dick in your response...it was just my opinion.

You call calling a bad engine as whining. OK. I call that telling the truth and can be interpreted as politically incorrect. Even HAM himself joked about the Honda engine then in a press conference. You do have a long memory. Ham and ALO had long buried the hatchet BTW and if RON DENNIS himself actually took him back in to McLaren, he certainly buried the hatchet as well enough to hire him back. Let it go!

The problem was that Alonso was heavily criticising Honda on the team radio for the world to hear...a significant loss of face for Honda and one that they are disinclined to forgive.
I believe RD was just being pragmatic when he took Alonso back...being the best driver available at that time...but its difficult to know what exactly was going through Ron's mind as he was quite a complex individual and likely on the spectrum for a personality disorder.
