F1 2021: Belgian GP - Spa-Francorchamps (Aug 29)

it might be a good idea to move on the next race earlier after never ending fuss about Lewis vs Max on last 2 races..

here is the last years race..

and here is the program for the race weekend..

---------

we all know what happened in recent years at Spa.. i really dont understand why Eau Rouge's run off area is still pointing at the direction that cars likely ping pong among barriers.. and more importantly leaving driver directly vulnerable for even greater impact from the following cars..

im not defending at all to make the corner slower at all.. but by this run off area design its imminent that cars just bounce back to almost directly to the racing line.. since its a blind corner on top and by that speed energy difference is huge..

something. must. be. done. before. its. too. late..

but after Hubert things are looking like the same...
probably most of us already seen this but its from last week..

run off area must be redesigned.. its not enough for todays race cars..

Unsure if you have exercised your option to select "ignore" for those that are offensive and often simply detract from this meeting place where serious motorsport lovers can post (and learn) from each-other....

I have exercised the "ignore" option and life is much better; I really enjoy engaging with many on this Professional Motorsports thread.

Wishing you well -

THANK YOU for starting the new thread - we all await your prompt to focus on the next GP!

I watched in horror as the 24 Hr shunt played out, and I too flashed back to the horror of the loss of Hubert.

Agreed - something must be done; the realities of race cars at WOT cresting a hill (Eau Rouge) at +- 180 MPH and have ZERO time to react to shunts that have occurred....

Totally agree that the runoff area(s) need to be widened significantly with the latest technology to slow the car(s) before reaching the energy absorbing crash barriers.

Other alternatives include slowing the speed in the Eau Rogue area....this is going to be wildly controversial to those of us (including me) that cherish one of the last sections of race track that are exciting to the core.

ALO's comments re Eau Rogue:
2005 and 2006 F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso explained:
"...You come into the corner downhill, have a sudden change [of direction] at the bottom and then go very steep uphill. From the cockpit, you cannot see the exit and as you come over the crest, you don't know where you will land. It is a crucial corner for the timed lap, and also in the race, because you have a long uphill straight afterwards where you can lose a lot of time if you make a mistake. But it is also an important corner for the driver's feeling. It makes a special impression every lap, because you also have a compression in your body as you go through the bottom of the corner. It is very strange – but good fun as well."

A great read about the infamous Spa....

There also has to be quicker communication to drivers to slow. The number of cars driving by the accident nearly full tilt in that video can't happen.

Maybe changing Kemmel into a chicane would improve the safety. (Adding the chicane at around the top of the hill)

On the other hand :
The investment was huge (mind boggling) at Zandvoort , last year the income was zero with the damn virus .
We are talking about a project investment of '65 Million Euro's ! => https://www.gptoday.net/nl/nieuws/f1...mule-1-project
So this season they hope to get some incomes .

Same situation over here at Francorchamps , the track is been damaged badly , twice by the crazy floods .
Tracks and Motorsports are struggling to survive by the damn pandemic !

I'm sure it's going to be a fantastic race.

Spa-Francourchamps is imho the most beautiful racetrack at least in F1 and maybe in the world.

Nordschleife and Circuit de la Sarthe are also epic , but I don't think F1 will ever race there again.

Just heard AM Vettel penalty stands so Max gets 2 points but Ham (of course) gets 18 instead of 15.
