2016 BMW Mountain Bike?

I found this barely ridden BMW team mountain bike for sale locally. It is apparently a Specialized factory team bike. I plan on using it for trail riding but it appears to be a very limited bicycle.

Does anyone know anything about them? I can't find much info online.

TIA.

I'm a bike snob (to a degree). Used to manufacture bespoke MTB frames for a living....

That bike is mutton dressed as lamb. It's cheap parts on a cheap frame (with BMW decals). If that's what you're expecting, crack on. But if you want a high quality, high performance bicycle, move on.

Hard tail with 3x drivetrain... I don’t think that would have been a big team. Promo item?

I agree. I used to build and ride really nice bikes in the eighties with only Campy parts, however I am not up to date on the new technology of things. I still have my 1991 Bridgestone MB-3 with Ritchie ProLogic tubing all original that I ride casually. I also have a full carbon Giant road bike that is 15years old. I’m just itching for a new bicycle.

I want to get back into riding some dirt trails, nothing serious, but can’t find anything new around here.

I suspected this bike was nothing more than a stickered up Specialized MTB. But I also don’t need a full suspension as I’m not going to be riding anything very technical. I do want the disc brakes.

I think you are right. Probably some marketing bs bikes that were put in showrooms. The guy is asking way too much anyway and thinks he has something super rare. If I can get it for $500 and not give a crap it’ll be worth it to me.

I think that's exactly what is is/was. I remember seeing one of these in the showroom when I was taking delivery on my M2 in December of 2016.

Believe me, you can get much nicer hardtails than this! I'm pretty stunned that you can't find anything more suitable...but I am aware that many bikes are sold out globally.

My old company is called BTR Fabrications. Their 'Ranger' is the best trail/all mountain/etc hardtail in the world, bar none.

If I was interested in buying a car, and saw this in their showroom, my interest levels would actually drop (unless the bike was marketed as an entry level machine).

I am amazed at how many people here are connected in so many ways to so many industries. I knew I’d get solid information. Thanks a lot.

My issue is I’m in my mid 50’s and I can’t recover as well as I used to when I was in my twenties and would ride 100mi a day.

I can’t find a single new bicycle in the price range I want to spend, $600-$900, from any of the big name manufacturers. I’ve been told that December of this year is when they expect to have inventory. I ordered a bicycle for my sons birthday last August 20th and it still hasn’t arrived. It’s just a kids 24” Trek.

Maybe for $500 the above bike will be suitable for me.

I think the OP is quoting AUD.

Does it have to be new? I'd be looking for a simple 29er hardtail, if I were you... With such a non-specific spec, there must be something!?

To me it seemed like a stupid gimmick designed to extract top $ out of brand fan boys who will pay $2k for a $400 bike because it has a BMW logo on it. They will stick it in the garage and there it will sit, unused, forever. it's the same feeing I get when I go into the BMW parts department and see "M" branded suitcases, luggage, watches, shoes, kids pedal cars, etc.

I’m just gonna keep on looking for something new that will suit my simple needs. The guy selling that bike thinks he has something special which I thought was fishy.

Thanks for all of your help. I can put BMW stickers on any bike if I want. 😉
