If only I could obtain one for less than $500k…one day a peasant like me will be able to actually acquire a new one. Until then I will continue to suffer by picking up the scraps of the rich in the used market.

I'm sorry but I am honestly losing track (and interest) at all the 911's coming out. Regardless most seem to be stacked with ADM's and low allocations so I guess it wouldn't matter to me regardless.

The adms kill the interest of many Porsche enthusiasts. It is the only reason I have not purchased a GT3.

Agreed. I love the concept, but as others have noted, Porsche has really gone off the deep end with the pricing and exclusivity.
I'm pretty damn happy with the my base model 265hp 987.2 Cayman 6MT. It's fun as hell and way more car than I'm capable of in the turns. A little more straight line power under 4500rpms would be nice, but above that rpm, it's a total blast. Point being, most basic 911/Cayman/Boxsters are plenty for the majority of drivers. My Cayman weighs slightly less than this 911 S/T and I cannot imagine what 525hp would feel like. Jeez.

A member on rennlist recently posted the price of a base 911 Carrera in the 1970s. Comparing an equivalent base Carrera today shows that base price appreciation has averaged approx 5% per year over those 4 or 5 decades. Not exorbitant imo for a company whose aim is to earn profit for its shareholders.
As long as Porsche sells “one fewer car than the market demands” (Blume’s stated strategy), their path will not change. ADMs therefore are more likely the future norm, than not. If Porsche is “leaving the market behind”, another manufacturer will fill the gap. BMW and Genesis would be my guesses for this. If no new models enter the “gap” left by Porsche, it means that no market gap was created. Last edited by chassis; 08-03-2023 at 12:54 PM.. |

I don't recall BMW ever competing with Porsche nor building cars on a sports car chassis... unless you mean the M1 from the 70s?

I feel fortunate that I got my 911 before the Porsche dealers started screwing over their customers, including ones who had made several purchases. I don't want to give them any more of my money. When I bought my first Porsche, it was like they appreciated me as a customer, didn't try to do any funny business, and I came in and bought the car, very painless and amicable process. I did this several times.
I was offered a GT4RS allocation earlier this year (plus all the add-ons) but didn't want another cayman based car. I asked for a GT3 Touring allotment and after a few months, was contacted. I'd have to do the whole kabookie dance to get the full PPF at 2-3x above market price (and they do a crappy job), ceramic coat that doesn't hold up, and one of their Porsche Design watches for another 6-7k....and sign a piece of paper saying I won't flip the car (which I wouldn't but it's the principal of the matter). At the end the car would have been about $30k above sticker so I just said no way and expressed my strong displeasure even after having transacted 4-5 Porsches with them. Haven't heard from them since. I think they have their handful of billionaires who buy cars every month and are satisfied with that. |

Honestly, I can't really get excited for a new quarter million dollar plus 911 variant that seem to pop up every other month. I get why they do it. And the cars themselves are amazing, but I feel like the magic is lost.
