Please refrain from using the term "owner". It's racially insensitive.

People still watch the NBA? I loved it in the 80s and 90s until it turned into a no defense 3 point shooting contest.
But, I agree the guy is a dbag and it would of been cool to at least see him get slapped upside the head once. |

What power does the NBA have to fine the guy? If I were him I'd tell them to go F themselves. I might even sue the NBA for the hell of it if I were he. I'm sure he has lawyers on retainer.

Folks are entitled to their opinion on this and that’s fine. Bottom line: you shouldn’t be putting your hands on people. What a cowardly act. Putting your hands on someone that cannot rightfully defend themselves. |

You clearly don’t get it. It goes like this...Kyle Lowry gets shoved by Mark Stevens, Kyle Lowry punches Mark Stevens in the face, Kyle Lowry’s career is effectively over. Since this seems to be going over your head, the following would ensue: All of his endorsements would end before the final seconds ticked off the clock, the NBA would suspend him indefinitely and then ban him, the Raptors would release him and Mark Stevens would likely sue him. Make sense?

People are acting like the guy did something really horrible. He pushed him away. He should have kept his hands to himself; yes, but he didn't throw a milkshake on him! This is SO overblown. I would have nothing to do with the NBA if I were considering investing in a team.

Can we all agree that it would be absurd for the NBA to issue a fine if the court side pusher wasn't an investor in a team? I say this because it isn't clear that the fine derives itself from the guy being an investor. Would anyone support a $500k fine to just some person who happed to be sitting court side?
Personally I am just super offended by this action by the NBA. Where does someone go to dispute the fine? Whom is the neutral arbiter in these cases? I'd make the NBA settle this in court. No way in hell I'd give them $500 never mind $500k. Edit: I wonder if the right move is for the guy to just shut up and let them talk about the fine.... Then just never pay it. I'd bet the NBA wouldn't ever actually take legal action to demand payment. They just need a story in the press displaying that they're taking the guy to the wood shed.

If the NBA would stop treating its athletes like they're on a leash and not allowed to react to things like humans would, i think a lot of this stuff would sort itself out.
What would happen in, say, a rec league game with no cameras? Guy on the bleachers randomly shoves a player, player would probably shove right back, possibly putting the smaller guy on his ass. At that point it's probably done unless the other dude wants to escalate by throwing punches or saying something really nasty. But he won't, because the other guy would cave his face in. I think that environment is pretty self-policing, no? On the playgrounds we would break up fights but we'd let guys go at it for awhile first. You wanna talk shit or put your hands on someone, you gotta be prepared to back it up yourself |
