time for nuclear power plant!

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/tex...ts-2022-07-13/

Texas's power grid operator on Wednesday took emergency measures to avoid rolling blackouts as soaring electricity demand threatened to outpace available supplies amid a stifling heatwave.......ERCOT blamed forced outages at coal- and natural gas-fed power plants, and low wind power generation.

Being a former electric utility company employee in Texas working in generation and an electrical engineer.... agree 1000%. If we are being encouraged to go all electric and get EVs then more generation is needed. Problem will be this will come from hydrocarbon fuels unless we go back to nuke.

Maybe tesla should of said this is all due to deregulation and offered some suggestions on how to regulate the energy sector so this doesn't happen again... but then they'd get kicked out of texas lol

This ain't about Tesla, they are telling businesses to throttle back during peak hours, especially energy hogs like crypto miners. It seems obvious that they are trying to reduce the load on the grid for the sake of critical services, like A/C, medical, emergency, etc. It's about all of these. Most EVs are charging off the peak, but they are trying to reduce the load at peak from all possible angles.

But yeah, all the businesses moving there need to think hard about quality of life for the employees. I don't care if it's the best business in the world, I'm not living in a place that gets to 105 with no mountains to escape and limited public land.

Nuclear doesn't make sense in all places, the immense infrastructure and energy required for all aspects make it end up costing more than it produces in many cases...but for places low on natural renewables, yeah, it makes sense to supplement. They have the big nuclear plant SW of DFW.

Texas Wind Power Is Failing Right When the State Needs It Most

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...-most-needs-it

"...wind speeds have fallen to extremely low levels, and that means the state’s fleet of turbines is at just 8% of their potential output."

Seems like a good time to be off the national grid. Led by fools down here.
