If/When this hits the U.S., it will decimate the new car market, and used car prices (especially for sports and high-performance cars) will skyrocket. I guess we knew this was eventually coming...and now, it's here.

ICE bans, anti-speeding tech, etc. Eventually they'll start notifying police if you speed.

Don't worry. It can be disabled by the driver. Many cars have the ability to speed limit, that can be set by the driver.

They (EU parliament) don't have much smarter to do (sadly) so they "invent" stupid laws.

This is not first crazy thing they "invented" and voted for, like stuff a few years ago when they limited the power of house vacuum cleaners....

The tech is not a bad thing and I don’t believe it will ever come to a point where it would be forced on with the mode to intervene with driving. Indicators and awareness is never a bad thing. Black boxes are an excellent idea.

Two scenario’s:
- some looser wants to do 100mph on a back road and looses it killing a family with kids - I am 10000% for releasing that black box on his guilt of driving

- my new to driving teenager, yeah I wouldn’t mind forcefully limiting their speed or getting an alert if doing something highly illegal and dangerous to them and others.

It’s not the tech to fear.

It’s not the tech to fear.

In the UK we already have a lot of young drivers using a live 'blackbox' as part of their motor insurance, to keep the cost down.. How they drive directly influences their wallet.

Meh, no biggie. The folks who love to be controlled will allow it and the rest of us will just go on as usual with work arounds. Meanwhile, the controlled will get upset and triggered which makes it all the more fun for the rest of us. The last 2+ years have been an absolute blast in that regards.

But this technology can be disabled in Europe, so it doesn't seem like a big deal. It can be useful when you're not in a mood for "spirited driving", or unfamiliar with the road/car, or in many other situations.
