Yeah I get it. I have been to St Louis and had an office in Wichimata at one point so got to know that city well.
Toronto feels like Chicago, there's a lot of similarities except Chicago has done way more with it's public spaces. |

Just don't disclose it at the border or if you do, have your receipt handy as proof ya'll just want to eat your meal once you reach your accommodations.
I cross the border often on the British Columbia side, never get hassled.

Quebec City feels like you are being transported to Europe. Definitely recommended it.

If you ever find your way to Quebec City, fitting Quebec's Eastern Townships into your itinerary can be very enjoyable. We would sometimes stop in the area around Lake Memphremagog or Lac Brome on our way to Q.C. If you like duck, the duck and duck products served in that region are not to be missed.

I'm in Canada everyone!
I had forgotten how close together all the houses here are.... and barely any front/back yard. Single family homes but they look like townhomes. And holy crap the property values here are insane.

Plenty of huge yards if you go to less urban spots but yes, prices are still nuts. You want near $2M for a reasonable family detached home in a good but not great area.

Apparently there's some government policies in place prohibiting building on certain lands? And that's one of the factors driving up a lot of the pricing... limited supply and also one of the reasons why some of the metro areas are so densely packed.

Sort of... ish. There's a green belt in Toronto that really should be preserved, there's tonnes of useless malls that can be bulldozed and condos put up with the ground floor remaining as retail.
The big issue no ne really wants to admit to is we welcomed 600K immigrants and most settle in the GTA ....... those people gotta live somewhere. |

The housing problem definitely is a series of factors, not just 1. And not isolated to the GTA, it's nationwide. It's true though that newcomers flock to Toronto or Montreal and then once reality sets in they start inching outwards. With the greenbelt it just pushed all the sleeper suburb communities 1hr further away. With no plans of infrastructure upgrades or mass transit to get those people to work, its pretty messed up.

I'd put an immediate halt to all transit and new roads. People can work remotely, well enough of them, the cost of building and crucially, maintain, all this infrastructure is going to cripple us.

Flying cars = no infrastructure.
![]() Road traffic has already exceeded pre-WFH numbers a while back according to the news. 2nd worst place in the world is apparently Chicago lol. Toronto is 7th. |

It's pointless, you build it, it's great for a few months then it's choked.
Just shut it down, demand for WFH will rise and business will move where the employees are. |
