I hope to god nobody on here would go as far as to actually vandalize somebody's car over a fake badge though. I laugh at fake M badges as much as the next guy, but you have issues if you're so personally offended by it that you'd feel the need to actually remove the fake badge or physically write on somebody's car.

There's a fake c63 at my gym.. It has the rear badge as well as the front fender badges but regular c300 bumpers, brakes, hood, fenders and exhaust tips. I'll grab a pic next time I see it.

This one did. It's the 1 Series M Coupe, the predecessor to the M2. BMW didn't want to call it the M1 because that was the classic mid-engine BMW super car from the early 1980's.

The 1M had a tuned version of the N54 motor and the transmissions and drive line components from the E92 M3.

I kinda accepted the fact that people place m badge next to 328, 535, 740 etc, because for them it makes sense due to m sport package, but why put M2/3/4/5/6 badges on non m car?

so then the m2 isnt an m because it doesnt have winged mirrors or an s designated motor. yet all the reviews say its more m than the m3/4 because its more raw

same goes for the 1m.. a tuned n54.

We can debate both of those cars for sure. The M2 and 1M had/have "regular" run of the mill power plants (N55/N54). Not to mention all the other goodies that are missing. I never considered my 335is to be an M car even though it had the same tuned N54 with DCT.

This thread is about the shmoo who poses and puts an M badge on a 528 luxury line or a 320. Etc etc.... Let's not get our panties in a bunch.

It's all in good fun and amusement. Nothing more.

Not all of us think the same way. That's a M badge on a M Sport wheel. That's fine in my book. I also think the m240i, m340i, m440i, m550i are okay. BMW can do whatever it wants with it's badges, what do I care?

Who thinks that? I don't. It sounds like you are just coming in here to pick a fight. We're not all as judgmental as you think. The M2 is a fine M car.

The 1M and the M2 are fine cars. Disparaging the M3/4 in the M3/4 forum is not constructive to a civil discussion and it makes you come off as a troll. I'll still take a M3 over an M2 or 1M because I like the size.

no trolling at all. im trying to understand what it is about a lil 2in badge that makes a lot of m owners mad. imitation is the best form of flattery isnt it? I like that i can get an m division inspired vehicle and it just happens to come with a handful of m badges on it. in Europe they put them on the fenders. here is the US they do not since it seems a lot of M owners get mad enough that even BMW doesnt dare send it over the pond that way. its intriguing. I see these badges all over and just shake my head and move on. I just wanted to get this threads take on the cars coming from the factory that have been badged as illustrated by many of the photos i saw in this thread.

I think there are many reasons and I'm sure they have been mentioned, but I will provide my take. Some people value the sporting history and tradition of the M line and don't want to see it dilluted. Some people take it as a shot to their ego because they believe their car proves something about them. Some are annoyed by the people who purchase these cars and try to pass them off as more than what they are. Personally I see it as a marketing ploy but it doesn't bother me too much. I like my F80 and it's a fun car for the time being.

BUT

If we talk about the similar situation going on with MB AMG43 vehicles I will admit that it bothers me a lot. Having owned an SL63 and CL63 I can say that these cars are nowhere near a true AMG vehicle yet the people that buy them don't know better. I've been around long enough to remember these same conversations about C Class MBs and how they weren't real Benz's AKA Baby Benz's. It's just a big loop and I'm sure there will be plenty more things like this in the future.
