Garbage mods land you in threads on the interwebs, like this one, so we can all point and laugh at their failed attempt of trying make something a bigger deal than what it is.

It's not the fact that they slapped a badge on a car, it's the mindset behind it. We have members such as these, running amok on our dear forums here as well.

So I'm watching the football game with my Dad yesterday who just got back from AZ. He tells me he saw my car this weekend on his trip and took a pic. He sends me the pic and I was like.....Bwhahaha! I love my Dad but he has no clue about cars. That being said, nice M3 right??

While it is impossible to speak on anyone's mindset behind anything they do, I can agree that ugly is..... ugly - regardless of mindset. However, while I might cringe at viewing said atrocities, I try to not to make fun of anyone doing the best they can....ugly or not. In the end, it's their prerogative what they do with their car.

There are several people, subscribed to this thread and commenting negatively about others' "modifications" to their cars, that (if I were the type) I would call out immediately for trying to impress others with the additions (bolt on ... crap) to their cars. Again they should do what they like but when they comment negatively on what other's do, they should quietly refrain from trying to impress others with their attempts to make a silk purse out of an old sow's ear.

They amuse me like many ridiculous things. No harm in having a laugh at what collectively amuses us. But no requirement to participate if you feel otherwise.

Exactly. Every 10 pages or so, someone rides in on their high horse defending personal rights to slap a fake M badge on a car. Yes, they can do it.. and we can point and shake our heads. It's not about hate or gatekeeping. Who are they fooling anyway ? General public could care less. And those that do care can spot the fake a mile away. It is ridiculous, and amusing.

If a person inserts dandelions in their anus and walks backwards on all fours, it is their prerogative. Regardless of their intent, it will still be looked upon unfavorably by those who do not act in such a manner. Anyone can do whatever they like to adorn themselves or their personal possessions. Case in point, I'm a former tattoo artist, I know this all too well. Some tattoos get viewed as insane works of art, some get raised eyebrows. This is two part - 1.) the design/art work/general idea of said tattoo and 2.) the artists ability to apply their talent. We view the fake ///M's as such. Their intent is to fool people that don't know any better (and that don't really care) to elude to the fact that their vehicle is something more than it is. Furthermore, their attention to detail and their "ability" (or lack thereof) to apply said applique is applicable here as well.

In short, their "I'll fool everyone" mentality is what we scoff at.

I'm guilty too. I have "F" badges from the RC 350 on my on my IS. However, my IS is an "F", I just didn't like the white/chrome badges, on a really dark car, that has no chrome whatsoever. What would get me laughed at, or finger's pointed, would be if my car was not an F.
