I'm not loaded, or rich, I'm in customer services on an IT desk. I love BMW's and love driving this car to death.

It's not an M car, it's not a M240, it has the m-package, it is plastered with M badges all over the place, rims, steering wheel, sills, but it had the badge delete option, so why is it sacrilege for me to put 3 m badges on this car, but it's ok, to have them all over the rest of the car. I don't need an answer, I'm being rhetorical.

At least I'm giving permission to have my car's picture on here.

Enjoying it so far?

Seriously, don't people have anything better to do. What does it matter what badges
people put on there car's.

I admit I do like the old over the top blinging pictures of cars, they do make me laugh

I mean, I do NOT understand, why putting a badge makes you peoples blood boil.

Why, explain it ? what does it matter in the grand scheme of things
No blood boiling. Never on this thread. We just like funny pictures. And sometimes the funny pictures have an M on it

Saw this on a local used car dealer's site. The stripes aren't even in the correct order.

History of the stripes in the grill.

How did this get started?

Was it something that MSport put in the early days of racing?

Do you guys know what is even weirder? A couple of years ago they started doing this in every other market than the US, if you got a non-M car with "M-Sport" trim level they put small M badges on the fenders and a few other places throughout the car. That's how it comes stock from the factory if you only tick the "M-Sport" box. It's all about snobbery and brand appearance, unfortunately for BMW it will be a short-lived experiment in brand dilution.

There is zero evidence that what you’re saying is true. Considering the unprecedented manufacturing delays the restyled BMW’s are selling very well. In a few years the great grille issue will be nothing but a bunch of archived threads.

Are you disputing the fact that M-Sport cars come with extra badges from the factory in other markets?

Or are you disputing the fact of brand dilution?

Maybe they thought it was about the grille? In this case, it wasn't (except for the thing about the colored bars, I suppose).

Having said that, note that the new 2 doesn't have the beav... er, I mean, enormous grille and draw your own conclusions about what that means going forward. Could mean smaller grilles and a bunch of archived threads, the latter because everybody who cares enough to post about it has repressed the memory.

P.S. My favorite grille joke is still Sreten's (M539 Restorations on YouTube) comment when a late '90s 850i right kidney fell on his foot: "If this had been a new 7-series, it would have crushed my foot."

I wasn't even talking about the grilles. I was just pointing out the fact that BMW is continually diluting the M brand by changing the model designation to have the "M" precursor if the car has the "M-Sport" option. Which, lets be honest, is ever increasingly an aesthetic option package.

Or that if you tick the "M-Sport" option on your build sheet, then the vehicle arrives festooned with "M" branding all over the place. When in reality, besides a few suspension pieces and some bumpers - it is the exact same car as one without the "M-Sport" option.

True. I just lump everything in that square between Simi Valley/Thousand Oaks/Westlake all into the same area. LOL!

T.O. and Westlake are comparable. Simi Valley and anything eastof T.O. and Westlake are two different worlds. But, they all have bored wifes/divorced women.

They come like that (but deleteable) in all markets but the US I think?

It's been like this since the F-series at least, so about 10 years now. There's E46's driving around with a M logo on the steering wheel that are not M cars.

Of course it's getting a diluted a bit, but stock M badges are not "fake" M badges, just like stock M performance cars are not "fake" M cars.

So this discussion is somewhat off-topic for this (light-hearted) thread.

This has been going on for 20 years, or are you saying the E46 M sport package was not just bumpers and suspension tuning? The only thing that changed is that since the F-series, they put those M logos on the fenders in non-US markets.

I don't understand what you are trying to argue. My point is that over the last ~25 years, BMW has been continually diluting the "M brand" by making it more prevalent through excess badging and now more recently, model designations. While what you get from the M-Sport option is ever dwindling at the same rate. That is not an opinion, it's just an observable fact.

You cannot seriously say that they are not putting more emphasis on the M branding on non-M cars with every generation.

My E36 318ti had M badges on the sides and an M Sport steering wheel. M sport models started a long time ago. And yes the badges were factory badges on a US model.
