Pretty sure there's a few threads on this. However for me I tried doing the manual espresso makers, found I like drinking it more than I like pretending to be a barista, was also too cheap for most super automaticos. Then I found the Phillips Lattego 3200. Normal price is $700, but they go on sale all the time for $600ish and can be had under $600 if you are willing to wait. Does everything I would want. I got mine in 2020 and it's still going strong. I like it so much last year I bought the cheaper version the Carina 1200 for $300 on sale for the NC house. The main difference is the more expensive one froths the milk for you vs on the cheaper one you have to use the frother. Since I typically drink espresso shots and only occasionally do cappuccinos it's not a big deal to froth the milk myself.

I got a Breville barista touch. It's nice but I have to tamper the grounds myself. They are on sale right now for $880 (normally $1100). Their higher end one is the Oracle I believe but it's like $3000.

Look into Miele and Jura too.

This topic came around a couple months ago.

Most “full automatic” machines from Europe are good. WMF brand is common in hotels in Germany. The German town I am traveling in now has a WMF retail boutique with good machines. 50Hz/220V unfortunately.

Jura is a good brand.

Turkish coffee is an excellent experience. Full manual, not automatic.

Cup-type machines (Nespresso, Keurig, etc) are inferior to full automatic.

Have been using Breville Infuser + grinder combo. The machine consistently makes good coffee (had them for 6+ years now). Love the analog pressure gauge.

Have a e61 head based manual machine. Owned for 15 years or so and it’s literally done 1000s of cups of coffee. Mainly used for making flat whites in our household. Makes a reasonable cup still although it’s on its second boiler.

These are a generic Italian machine and are sold under a few brand names and still made now.

Older pic so grinder long gone, but using a sette 270 for past 4 years. An excellent grinder for the price point.

i mean it all comes back to budget...if funds are unlimited, get a nice Jura machine that can grind coffee beans... use Illy or Lavazza coffee... it doesn't get better... but the Jura machines run from $2k to $10k lol

Mr. Coffee

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08QD33PZ2

I went through all of this last year. Bought into it all. Chemex, grinders, kettles... worked on perfecting my pour. Then after Chemex was providing me with no real better coffee for the effort, I went back to drip and tried a few different higher cost options such as the Moccamaster. Now the Moccamaster may have historically been a quality maker, but what they sent me was $350 plastic slag that was broken out of the box. Went straight back. Tried a very well reviewed (all legit as far as I could research) OXO, that also produced no better coffee for the effort.

In the end, a $20 Mr. Coffee is just fine for me. I do not have the refinements, cultural or otherwise, to appreciate any nuance in coffee... if it even exists (I'm not convinced). It is like listening to someone dump wordy eloquence into describing a wine. It all tastes like feet to me.

I replaced a Keurig with a Nespresso machine awhile back. While it won't compete with what others are listing here, the Nespresso is way better tasting than the Keurig IMO. If you're looking for something quick/convenient to make in the morning, I'd recommend this as an upgrade.

I bought this Keurig and I grind my own Lavazza beans. I never use those plastic K-Cups because the coffee tastes like crap.

There are a lot of coffee machines out there but I prefer the Chemex system.

I forgot about Nespresso. We also have one that was gifted to my gf a long time ago. That's what we used at the NC house before I bought the Carina. It does make pretty good espresso. Buying pods and finding the right pod is kinda of a pita but the espresso is good IMO.

If you go that route I recommend the older machines the use the small pods. From what I've read the new ones have these fat pods that are harder to get non Nespresso brand ones. I guess they have some kind of built in protection. Fuck that. Millions of pod options for the older style machines.

Yeah, I usually just order them online every few months. I am lucky that I'm in a big city and there is an actual retail location like a mile from me, but I think those are far and few between.

Current setup. Not this one but they all work the same. Nothing automatic, all manual.

The more I go down the rabbit hole the more I come back to Philips and Tera cafe. Wife wants a white coffee machine if possible.

Does yours have a cold brew function?

I see some say yes and some no.

Also I’m thinking 5400 for the one push options.

Anyone

Mine does not but my needs are basic. I rarely even use the auto frother on the 3200. However they do have higher end models that do more like the 5400 you mentioned. For me I just want espresso 90% of the time.

Never heard of the Tera Cafe before now, but if you are willing to go to $1k then you should have more options as far as super automaticos.

I think I’ll order the TK-02. It’s unproven but also 3 day full return policy (I pay freight). So willing to try it. Just hate I have to wait till fall.

Looking for ability to EASILY make ;
Drip coffee mostly
Capuchino sometimes
Cold brew coffee all summer
Espresso rarely

Any other suggestions ?
