Audi RS6 vs. Mercedes E63...

In the vein of being truly off-topic on a BMW forum... Which one would you opt for and why?

I love the RS6 Avant. It’s one beautiful car. Never really been a fan of Mercedes.

I vote Audi out of aesthetics. I’m sure either would be more than pleasing to drive each day, but the RS6 just has the “it” for me, and it isn’t something you would see regularly.

This.

One is a nice looking vehicle, the other one is a hearse.

RS6 is my dreamcar. The car has so much presence on the road. I would take an RS6 over an RS7

I LOVE wagons! However, except for being a passenger, I have no experience with Audis or Mercedes.

I will say this: the last Audi I was in (a luxe Q7) had a driver/front passenger compartment that was, for me, more of an entertainment center than I'd experienced before. Because that's pretty much the opposite of what I look for in a vehicle, I didn't see it as being especially useful or attractive.

My last wagon was a Gen 2 Volvo V70R to which I added ~10% more power and handling performance. I sold it to cover my race car habit and wish to this day that I'd kept it. Selling the V70R was probably my worst car mistake ever. Honestly, I blame the wife for that fail (no more information required).

Wagons FTW, always and forever!

I'm a big fan of Wagons, I'd love me an AMG Wagon but there is something about the Audi that just works.

I think RS6 because it's less UGLY... but all in all, at that price point, i'd no doubt get something like an X5M / RSQ8 instead.

Is the question hypothetical or are you seeking to purchase, or have you purchased, one of these vehicles?

AMG E63 wagon has more street cred and more icon status. Subjective.

Both have 4.0L V8s in the latest/current models. MB's M177 engine seems to be developing a reputation for rear main seal failure over time because of vapor separator failure. Audi's EA825 does not seem to have persistent or acute problems so far.

Because the E63 is no longer available as new in the NA market, you are limited to 2020 model year and newer. The RS6 is listed as a current model in late 2022 on the Audi USA site.

It seems neither car has a 48V system, which is good.

I have never preferred Audi's front axle/engine arrangement which leads to longer front overhangs than, for example, MB or BMW. MB and BMW engine+transmission, on longitudinal powertrain platforms, are set further back in the vehicle, resulting in better front end aesthetics in my view (subjective).

Audi if it's a wagon. Mercedes wagons look like a hearse IMHO, if anyone does the wagon right it's been Audi.

Sorry to say it, and I don’t mean it to be offensive, more of a general statement:

You, sir, are what’s wrong with the world

I sir am what's right with the world... tell me, what does a 5k lb wagon offer over a 5k lb SUV? Driving dynamics due to a slightly lower CG lmao? Get out of here...

However, I'll tell you what the SUV offers... far more utility due to a taller load space, easier traversing over rougher roads as it's higher off the ground and far more rear seat comfort due to being able to sit higher / taller... that part is not even debatable and that's what people in this class search for.

This is why these wagons NEVER took off in the USA... because people here are bright enough to figure out that the utility an SUV offers are far greater than the little bit of performance a wagon would offer... you want performance and a better CG... buy a lighter sportier car... simple... and most people that buy a performance car anyways have 2 cars.

You may have a point.

When I think of a wagon I think something like an M3 wagon, which is an M3 with the versatility.
Admittedly those two are based on cars I wouldn’t own anyway (both from a cost and size perspective). I have driven 5-series cars and wouldn’t want them for me.

Plus, I have never driven an X5M, for example, to compare. I hear they are magical and turn like they shouldn’t.

Now, take a 3-series wagon and compare to an X3, I’d take a 3-series everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. The attributes you mention are true in those cars. I’m not so sure about the super heavy big wagons and SUVs.

I think you'll find the same... i've driven an X3m on track, it feels weird but it's extremely capable... the M3 touring which is coming to the USA... you will find will probably sell a total of 10 cars lol. Most people won't buy that touring with the capable sedan being offered... here in the USA at least.

I made the switch from an M3 CS to the RS6. Super happy. Never considered the E63.

To those comparing an SUV to a wagon, get out of here. I already have an SQ5 and there is no way I was buying another SUV. There is a world of a difference between them. You realize a wagon is a sedan with a bigger trunk?

I have never been a fan of Audis until I drive and RS7 and RS6. Both were friends cars. Those RS cars have a vastly different soul than any other Audi.

Sadly I’ve never driven and M5 so I cannot compare.

Those RS cars are insane. Perhaps some day ?

Being a Mercedes-Benz driver, I would go for the E63 . Station wagons are not my fave styling either
