Hammers go through

West Ham beat AK Alkmaar 3-1 on aggregate last night, after the game extreme 'ultra' hooded thugs tried to attack West Ham players' families in the stands. They failed, thanks to Knollsy and a mate who held them all off.

Ugly logo choice revealed yesterday aside, remind me again why we in the USA want to host the next World Cup? Several European nations have issued travel warnings to their citizens about widespread gun violence, yet more spectators have been killed by spectator violence at soccer (football in the UK) matches than shot at USA sporting events.....

That's because of the original 'works team' roots and links, represented on the club's badge. Team was founded in 1895 as Thames Ironworks.

You may be referring to the Hillsborough disaster in '89 when Liverpool were playing Nottingham Forest there, where 97 deaths occurred because of overcrowding and errors by the organisers and police opening a wrong gate causing a crush.

I was referring to the boringly plain North America 2026 World Cup logo that was announced yesterday:

That and several others on the continent as well as other parts of the world. We think of soccer hooligans the same as all y'all think of crazy armed Americans roaming the streets.....

Agree, just the 26 and a cup looks like an afterthought, something like an eagle in the background would have been nice.

Knowing that someone could be armed walking the streets would make me a bit jumpy but keeping to soccer, countries, say in South America can have extreme reactions like referees and players being shot or beaten to death which has happened.

Not a Lord of the Rings films viewer but after a quick look up think I see your point, the name comes from the old English name of Froda, it's been written he combines courage, selflessness and fidelity.
