Agree about the horizon. Also, the barrel distortion can be corrected in DPP, LR or DxO, among others. Unless you like curved horizons, I think that geometric correction during RAW conversion is a huge plus.

I like the exposure as is. I might have tried a GND at the horizon. The 10-stop wave action is almost cliche' these days. I think it's harder to get a landscape with energy, without any "tricks."

For the images that I decide to keep, I will fix the horizon/distortion (LR and DPP makes it easy) - I am still going through the thousand images to see which ones are keepers. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Hieu, I'd suggest AUTOMATIC correction of distortion as part of your RAW conversion. Horizon straightening takes only five-seconds.

Now that you're getting really good, and you are, i'd suggest presenting everything that you do as a finished product.

My work flow for 1,000 pix would be as follows:
  • Decide which 900 to delete.
    Load the winners into DxO
Crop and straighten horizons, convergence, etc. apply exposure presets (20-sec. each)
    Process (10-minutes)
Pick ten for sharing and posting to Flickr, SmugMug, BMWPost, etc.

Only use in-camera jpegs for previews.

Dave

Thanks! I was a little disapointed in the Luau I went to (Hyatt - Drums of the Pacific). The one I wanted to go to was called the Old Lahaina Luau on Maui, but they were booked out for awhile.

The Old Lahaina Luau will always be booked, make your reservations before you go. Want to go next month?

10 stops = 3 1/3rd real stops

No. 10-stops is approximately 10 real stops on a good ND filter. Here's my favorite one... sadly I've been on backorder for over two months on this now (damn LEE):

I'm used to seeing .6 or .3 or whatever... I assumed that ".6" was the key to you readjusting your exposure properly. So if you have a .6 you stop down 6/3rds (from f11 to f5.6) and thats the proper exposure.

maybe I over thought it all.

You didn't over-think it. I think you got confused by density numbers vs. stops. A density of 0.3 is actually 1 real-stop, 0.6 is 2 real-stops, etc. Those are approximate of course, since it depends on the quality of the resin/glass.

ok so each .1 is a 1/3rd stop. Got it.

Awesome shots guys! Haven't been active on this part of the forum for a while now due to a LOT of travel. I'm finally home (Lebanon) visiting my parents and friends for the summer. This picture was taken from my bedroom less than an hour ago. Sunset over the Mediterranean Sea, untouched in any way, straight out of the camera.
