Do you dislike having your kids in your car?

so here's my thoughts, I have 4 kids, 3 girls under 10 and a 14 yr old boy. I loooove cars and we have 3 all together but I absolutely dread having them in my car, it's inevitable but now I'm wondering, am I the only one? how do you guys deal with kids and your prized possessions?

I dont see them as prize possessions, it just a car.
it can be clean, repair, trade it in and move on.
my kids over any materialistic thing.

I personally have no kids but I do have dogs i transport a lot. I lay down some protective covering for the seats and close the valves... Dogs love the giant window and space to relax in the seat. Sometimes they opt to relax in the back and i just turn the AC on and they love it. If I had kids I would buy a separate car, i can only imagine what car seats would be like in a coupe.

No eating
No drinking
No smoking
No feet on dashboard

And NO, you can't drive it.

Sorry for poking fun. I imagine it's tough having kids and wanting to keep your cars the way you like them. I keep seeing that weather tech commercial with the kid dropping the ice cream on the floor.

My kids (adults now) were my prized possessions. I tried to teach them respect and care for things, like cars, but if they spilled cheerios in the car we’d just clean it up. No matter how well you care for a car, it is still a depreciating asset. Kids should be appreciating.

The kids should be the prized possessions. The vehicles used to transport said bundles of joy should be viewed as nothing more than a tool to accommodate the life thereof.

Cars being considered prized possessions should only occur once the kids are adults and you have the time to invest in them.

I used to be this way...and then it all changed.
But now i share lol
either i clean up after my kids (toddler & infant)or a trip to hand car wash.
i still take care of my car, make it dad & son time.

Don't sweat it. It's just stuff. Teach them to respect it and take care of it but, most importantly not to let it own them.

I have 3 kids under 10. They know from an early age that there is no eating or drinking in the car and they clean up their own mess when they leave the car.

Otherwise, I do expect that they will and do forget, which is why I put a black cover over the back seats in case they do make a mess and I have WeatherTech mats in case they do spill. I also have BMW car organizers behind each from seat so they don't put their dirty shoes behind the front seats. I also put some semi permanent sun shades on the rear windows so they are not tempted to touch or scratch the tint lol.

Then when they are at an age of reason, I could slowly remove stuff and it will hopefully still be in decent shape.

Yeah I can't relate to the dread thing.

Have an 8yo daughter and 6yo son. Both love cars and BMW in particular.

I love going out with them in the M2. We have fun whenever possible. They enjoy the turns and spotting other BMWs!

They know the basics about being respectful. For example, minding the door so it doesn't hit anything, not climbing with shoes all over leather, etc.

Depending on the distance, I will let them snack in the car on longer drives. And clean up any mess right after we get home.

The big thing I dont let them do is drink anything other than water in the car. But nobody is perfect and I've even spilled the odd bit of energy drink into the cupholder.

And I've accepted that until they get taller, my seatbacks will always have footprints on them.

I look at drives with the kids/family as a fun experience together, that we all get to enjoy.

Again, I don't have kids and that's not changing. I can be anal because I'm dealing with adults. I do agree to teach them young but by no means should a car come before your kid.

My father used to call my car my baby. One day after I cleaned my wheels he looked and said wow, the kids shoes shined up nice.

I have 5 and 6 year old boys who respect my car. No unnecessary damage or wear like climbing from back to front, playing with illumination or touching/poking headline. My kids eat and drink in my M3. I am cautious, usually drinks are capped and Im not serving anything beyond happy meals, candy, and yes ice cream. Its a one shot deal with family, I can always buy another car.

You a have to teach your kids how to respect things. Goes for everything, including cars. My 4-year old knows not to touch my paint, and watch the sill when he climbs into his car seat. Accidents will happen, and it's OK. Because that's how we learn.

But in the end, it's just a car.

My kids are more valuable than ANY I have ever owned or ever will own.

Now with that, my kids also get to ride in ANY car I own because they will probably enjoy the ride as much as I do.

A special thank you to all of you parents out there who are teaching your kids not to door the car next to you when they get in or out. Raising the next generation of car lovers is cool too, of course. It is only now, with adult perspective, that I can fully appreciate my Dad's true greatness at not ending my life early over a few childish indiscretions (and apologies to whoever finally had the job of 'restoring' all that green modeling clay out of the nooks and crannies in the seatbacks on the Merc).

^This, almost anything can be cleaned or protected.

My daughter barfed in our two week old F150 on the way home from school. Threw away her booster, bought another and cleaned it up. You can't tell it ever happened two years later.

I understand the no smoking. But, my friends etc have better manners to even think about putting their feet on the dash and don't eat/drink like pigs. Plus it is a manual so very few could actually drive it anyway.

But, it is your car etc so your rules of course.

Yup, my daughter loves helping clean "Toothless." The car is BSM so she named it after the dragon in those "How to Train Your Dragon" movies. Good times spent together in the summer with each other.

Kids and dogs actually lead my car buying decisions. No back windows that open for the dog? Out. No rear air vents for the kid? Out.

I have a cloth seated GTI to transport the kid and dog nearly every day. It gets dirty. I clean it. It's fun having them both around.
