Then the RCMP will tell her she needs to cool the house down. Smart!

My wife complains about the "cold" frequently. So, I bought a Nest thermostat. I configured it for 74 during the day and 72 at night. Not only that, I have the Nest App on my iPad, so should she dial the temp up too high, I can discretely dial it back down.

Meanwhile, both of our cars have "his & hers" temp controls. Not a perfect solution as air mixes, but I think the psychological part of the dial settings work pretty good.

After all that, dress accordingly.

She is wearing socks, leggins and light sweater but her hands for example, are absolutely frozen solid. I'm literally in shorts and a t-shirt.

Thing is, in summer the roles reverse. I am 100pc fine but the moment the house passes say 75 degrees she is absolutely dying and has to turn the air on.

Some of this is cultural I think, I grew up without heat or air, she grew up with both, so maybe I am just used to regulating. It's hilarious when we stay at my aunts house back home, it was 44 degrees (what's that, nudging 110?) and they do nit runt he aircon until bed time cos "it's fine unless you're trying to sleep".

Here in Oregon we only put heat on sparingly, in fact I still have the A/C set to a cool and dry 68 *F - I like to keep the inside humidity very low, we turn on the central air (heat) - maybe in late December.

My wife and kids like the house set to cool year round. I think early next spring we will need to upgrade our outdoor condensor unit (larger is gooder) and the evaporator coils in the air handling section too.

We have had a Rheem (Trane) unit for years, and I take meticulous care of it and it has been very good to us for years.

Cheers,
Merlin

I am going to derail my own thread, but define meticulous, what do you do? I never service it and i am not sure, at $400 a service, if it is worth doing?

I have a nest and leave it set to heat-cool mode so I dont really pay attention to it anymore. It just keeps it in a range when home that seems to work.

Well you can't have it both ways. Either you are a body temp regulating boss (in which case just let her raise the temp) or you are just as bad as your wife. Sounds to me like you both have your own temp ranges you are comfortable at and it just happens they don't coincide.

The only other option I see is space heater for where she hangs out.

I hate being warm in the house. My thermostat is set to 68 during the day and 64 at night all year round. I sleep better when the room is cold.

That being said, I do wait as long as possible to put on the heat. We had a cold front come through last weekend. I woke up in the morning and it was 60 inside. It does help that I have radiant heat in the master bathroom on a different thermostat.

Temperatures expressed in Celsius, not Farenheit, which only "socialist" countries use. It's a joke.

Thatīs what I thought. Itīs really not a good joke as the US is only one of three countries in the world officially using the Imperial system - the two others being Nyanmar and Liberia.

Living a 10 min walk from the beach near Santa Cruz, CA we sure don't need A/C other than maybe 6-10 days/year. High temps are typically in the mid 60s, low temps in the 50s during the summer, and just a little lower in the winter.

So, the heat's always "on". The programmable thermostat set points are 68 during the day and 63 at night. It's usually warm enough that the furnace doesn't run much from April-Oct, though when we get a few foggy days in a row it'll fire up to keep that damp cold away.

Sounds like a grumpy commie to me.

You can argue for the metric system all you want. I don't really care one way or the other, but celsius specifically is a HORRIBLE unit to measure temperature. The entire range of temperature we experience as humans is a minuscule range in celsius. It's like having a speedometer that goes to 1000 on your corolla. Maybe great for scientific stuff, but for knowing what the temperature is outside... it's shit.
