Go to Tourneau. Most places are seriously low in stock. Be prepared to pay full boat.

People with bmws may have more then one hobby or collection interest so when I noticed the watches thread I figured I’d give it a shot since if they already have good taste in cars I’d figure a good taste in watches and style as well.

Check out Rolex forums or Davidsw.

You will have a difficult time getting any sport or diver stainless steel models from authorized dealers at the moment. Best bet is gray market. Look at spending 2-5k over MSRP depending on certain models.

Good luck!

Budget would be good to know. Saying “looking to buy a Rolex” is like walking into BMW Dealership and saying “looking to buy a BMW”.

Most SS Rolex models are commanding very high prices, almost obscene. AD’s not likely to sell you popular sport models unless you have buying history with them. Buying used is an option, just buy from reputable sellers. Best thing to do is go to your local AD, see what they have and try on some pieces.

Good luck with your search.

What porshah said above about trying on watches is so important.

Getting a watch case that is sized to your wrist / (particularly) bracelet as a strap is cheaper to change out and more flexible - that fits and is comfortable.

One of the great things about Rolex are their great bracelets. Their Jubilee style is very comfortable

And style of clasp. A tang style to me is way more comfy to wear all day than an deployant.

Also but less invasive is the style of crown . Some chronographs with screw down pushers get in the way.

Anyway try on some different models and sizes.

This is terrible counsel, lol. Not sure what "hit" you're referring to. You'll be hard pressed to find a SS Rolex at an AD and if you do you'll pay over MSRP.

As other have said, if you are looking for a SS model,(even an older one), be prepared to pay well over MSRP, or way over what would have been fair market value for a used one even a few years.

Now if you are looking for a date just, or a two tone model, such as a two tone Sub, you will probably be able to do better.

Best of luck!!

And don't forget to put a bit of money aside for servicing—but only if you want your lovely wristwatch to actually tell time correctly.

This blew my mind also, i saw that Subs are going for ~15% over MSRP and GMTs are going for 50 - 60% over

you better buy it abroad and benefit from duty/tax free if applicable.
I got deepsea from AD in south Africa, 2K less than market value in USA, I was lucky though due to currency change

I have to echo a couple of posters above. You can't just say, "I’m Looking to buy a Rolex". Too many different sizes, styles, colors, models...... Start slow and visit dealers to try on and spend some time in. I've purchased watches over the years and later thought, "well, this is really too large/heavy."

Make sure that you buy for the right reason - that you love the watch. Not that you think someone will love it.

Seems like you're pretty fresh to the hobby. A lot of great input in the thread so far, I would reccomend finding your local Rolex dealer and maybe some reputable used Rolex stores near you. Get your hands on to some watches, get some wrist time, talk to the people at the stores. Learn and see what you like.

I can help you narrow down what model would be the best fit for you, if you would like. Someone's first Rolex is a big milestone! Let me know what your budget is, if it's going to be an everyday watch that you never take off, would prefer it for dress circumstances, which models have caught your eye already, etc. I will warn you, you will likely have to buy used with the majority of models. Many are quite literally impossible to be had new. The waiting list for a new, steel submariner is literally years long virtually internationally - for example. Luckily, there are many fantastic models to choose from!

I’d wait this out. Rolex is a great watch company brand but they are offending their base and new customers. I am a 2x owner and wanted to get my son a watch for his birthday / college graduation but I won’t over pay. I’ll wait or pass.

i have a number of them.......daytona, batman, subs and THE HUNT IS MORE FUN than the owning. You must be very careful and paying over retail is not necessary. A dealer can not sell over retail. SS is very very hard to find. Depends on where you live. The secondary market can be a real problem. DECIDE ON WHAT YOU WANT and go on the hunt.

https://www.grayandsons.com seems to have a bunch of used, but not sure how accurate their prices are in the current market. Inflation is here to stay

IMHO, they do tend to hold their value more that other pieces of jewelry that tell time.
