I forgot to tell you guys & gals about the latest level of ridiculousness. My department is piloting a program in which we essentially FaceTime a motorist during or prior to conducting a traffic stop.........



....in a effort to make them feel more comfortable before we approach the vehicle.




This is where we are in modern policing. It's so ridiculous that it makes me want to leave patrol altogether (...although that is the plan anyway) and never look back.

That's dumb, I agree. But how would that even work, practically speaking? How can you possibly get everyone's phone number ahead of time? There's got to be enough "my number changed" or "this isn't my car" type of people on the road that it's a silly idea and other than checking the license plate and what info is associated with it, I'm at a loss how you could even facetime someone before you approach. And what if they have an android, no smartphone, or no phone?

Even if they had my number, it wouldn't ring. I usually have my ringer turned off and the only calls that come through are from a few select people.

Sounds like entrapment to me, making someone use their "smart" phone while behind the wheel where it is illegal in many states.....

So it seems that the introduction of this approach to policing was all a byproduct of political handshaking. The father of the person who developed the app [that utilizes FaceTime] is associated with the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, so when he presented this to our department, our new Sheriff gave it the blessing because of who his father is. Apparently things aren't working out too well and it looks like this entire exercise will be scrapped. Thank God! Our union had issues with the implementation of all of this as well. All of this nonsense in the name of progressive policing; ideas presented by people who have never worked a day in law enforcement and who are prompted by ideologies and feelings rather than objectivity and reality.

I managed to not gag while I watched his interview. Said he ran on a strict platform of no death penalty, but guarantees this person will never get out of prison, IF convicted.

No, we have a mobile range at my station and I do work it periodically. The range at NCCF is used by people who live or work in the northern part of the county. All mobile ranges have been shut down until further notice.

It’s more than just a lined trailer. It has pressurization built-in similar to those medical rooms for TB patients and lots of ventilation. When the fire started the pressure made it impossible to open the exit door. That’s how two of the four injured Deputies got trapped inside.
