Forum Shift

It seems like I got back here after Thanksgiving and the whole tone of the place has changed.

First, people are starting to write posts as though they are text messaging one another. I don't believe forums require perfect grammar and spelling, but stupid abbreviations and lack of punctuation are grating.

Second, and more troubling, it seems like there are lots of pissing contests going on in various threads. I know I can be a curmudgeon, but a lot of what I'm seeing now is bordering on a flame war. Not good.

What it all boils down to is this: WE NEED MORE MODERATORS. We need people to not only edit and lock stupid posts, but to PM people behind the scenes and encourage them to behave appropriately.

Please, Howard, for the good of the forum, grant moderator privileges to a couple of folks. Even better, put certain people in charge of certain forums. That's how Miata.net does it and it works wonderfully. If someone is a sucky moderator you can always take away their privileges. I would start with Hugo. Several other people easily spring to mind, as well.

I know I've been bad, but I didn't think I was bad enough for my privileges to be revoked. ; -)

This has been true for months but the administrators here have some sort of ego. Anyone at this point would be nice but I'm getting tired of posting about it.

www.acurazine.com is operated perfectly.

And i do agree with this thread even though i see myself sometimes participating. I have PMed "Harold" regarding this and no response. It just seems that people around here are quick to accuse, flame, or just insult. we need some sort of moderation to either ban/restrict certain members.

My vote goes for Hugo to start it off as one MOD.

Almost every single day I report spam and porn posts to the Admins, with most of those times reporting multiple posts, practically begging them to add some mods for things like that in my message. I do appreciate the posts with new info that Harold does, but the admins are non-existent other than that (unless they have other "non-mod" usernames).

This site appears to be a "showtime grill" special lately... set it and forget it. More 'benevolent dictators' are needed.

I also agree with 1ster that it's been getting more bitchy in here. I just hate to see people attack others when they were wrong, and I even tend to reply a bit nastily to the instigator... How about a moderator posting "Let's calm the tone down in the thread" post once in a while?

the occasional "lets get back on topic" from someone with power would be refreshing.

I have found my self ignoring certain threads to keep my self from getting involved in those not so constructive discussions that have gotten out of hand

I have to use the 'member ignore' function on one person in particular that gets me riled by all of the misinformation and stubbornness that baits me (and I bite). I just hate people knowingly spreading wrong info, it's a fault of mine, because I see others quoting junk later on.

So.. Quick Links-> Edit options -> Buddy/Ignore List. Hi, my name is Larry and I have a problem.

once the flood of sponsors comes upon NA arrival, the moderators would have no choice but to get more involved and promote some of the members, if only to keep away the spam. But as of right now, who cares. I'd rather have some e-drama for entertainment than a dead forum.

PS +1 hugo

i complete agree with the OP that the character of this place has changed a lot over the last few weeks.

i suppose there are many factors that account for this but it's sad to see. i'm less interested in the place because of all the ego wars, and general unfriendliness. And hypocritically i would add the influx of illiterate posters is sad and disturbing. I'm not talking about those where English isn't their first language either.

Good. Keep that in mind because once the 1 is released, there will be a bunch of new people here talking all about their new blow off valves, intakes, etc.

Last thing we need is people spreading incorrect info causing other people to bomb their motors.
