This maybe a stupid question but does the driver activate DRS or is it automatically activated?

Driver pushes a button to activate (open) the DRS Flap. DRS Flap closes when the driver touches the brakes.

Once the sensor goes green (Less than one second behind the car in front) they press a button to open the wing. You can close it by pressing the button again/letting go of it/hitting the brakes.

In the early days of DRS Ferrari used to have the actuator switch on the left side of the pedal box so you can rotate your brake foot counter-clockwise to open it. I don't think anyone uses this method any more.

And why is everyone so caught up with how information leaked like this never or doesn't happen in any sports? It's almost laughable. Don't break rules and there won't be anything to leak or talk about. It's almost a joke how everyone is enraged of leaked information and wanting to penalize any team because they found out. Yes, let's penalize all teams that found out about the cap breach just because they know information but breaking a known rule regardless of small, no biggie.

This whole thing is over. Move on. This is not going to be the last time info gets leaked and you're not going to stop it in the future. Every other sport has the same issue. You're dealing with the media and their relationships with people within a sport - this isn't new. Stop making it a bigger thing that it really is.

Move on. No one is going to investigate any leak. And the fact that Red Bull is so adamant to go down this road says more about them than anyone else. What? You wish this never came out so you wouldn't be caught breaching then cap by a few hundred thousand?

Be thankful that RB accepted the 'deal' made up by Fia rather than let it drag on for months that would stain F1, RB could have taken this route with the unfair comments from some teams so they are actually moving on.
You can't deny there is a mole in the fia who shouldn't be there...as much as you want her there?

Teams like Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes are too big to not do something they think would be beneficial. If Red Bull was sure they didn't breach the cap or were totally in the right, they would've elevated this higher - they didn't because the penalty was a joke. Red Bull didn't do anyone any favours by taking the penalty they were given.

And there is no "mole" - they're just insiders just like any other professional sport. You don't want to be spoken about or be talked about in the media? Don't do anything that would warrant gossip. Red Bull fans and those who don't like Mercedes are taking this way too personally like gossip is only focused on Red Bull. If any other team did anything that would be deemed news, same thing would happen to them.

This means the corruption is still alive ..
That's why the Mercs are faster and the bouncing is completely gone ...

Driver activated but must meet certain track and time pentameters for it to trigger.

DRS

The DRS ("Drag Reduction System") is a flap that opens in the rear wing of the car. This reduces the amount of drag on the car and allows it to gain a speed advantage down the straights.

DRS can only be used when the driver is within one (1) second of the car in front. If the driver is allowed to use DRS, they will hear a "BEEP" in their ear and can activate the flap by using the "DRS BUTTON" on the steering wheel.

Thanks guys for the explanation.

Hopefully the Ferraris will improve enough this week to beat the Mercedes. Unfortunately they seem to be falling off instead of improving. Beginning of the season they were consistently as fast or faster than the Red Bulls but now they can't even compete with them.

Until Ferrari solves their tire degradation issue during race conditions, they won't win a race or Merc and RB messes up.

Because Merc b@llsed up their own creation not knowing what they were doing and by attacking RB via insiders they are actually bringing down the whole of F1 and the other teams that cannot say a lot as they are controlled too much by the wolf engine supply blackmail.
