I love the beats. Beats studio Bluetooth is the bomb.

There are a lot of haters out there for beats.

My advice, bring your phone, dial-in equalizer the way you like them for each headphone and listen to all of them and form your own opinion. And you will fine outside of oppa Beats is probably hands-down the best headphone you can buy under 500 box

Bring on the haters. Try all the headphones and then get back to me. I have actually tested and reviewed all of them and the beats are not too bad. I'm not saying they're the best but they're not too bad

Beats aren't the worst but for the money, you can do so much better.

The premium you pay for a pair ultimately goes to advertisements and endorsements. You're paying mostly for swag. If you're fine with that, more power to ya. But If I'm spending $500 on a pair of cans, I want the most for my money. So for me, Sennheiser, Audio Technica, Beyerdynamics, Grado, Denon, etc is the way to go.

You go from saying they're hands down the best, to saying they are not too bad and they're not the best. So what is it?

Agreed, for the price they are not bad as long as you have an equalizer to make the sound the way you like it.

Personally, I love these;

Why should anyone have to use an EQ to force any thing to sound the way you want it to? And most everyone out there don't know how to use an EQ properly anyways.

OK, my opinion aside, let's list some good headphones under $500 that the OP can look at.

I suggested: beats Studio wireless

I prefer oppo.

Hopefully the OP doesn't mind the question because I don't mean to thread jack at all, but it seems people seem very knowledgeable on quality audio here. Any recommendations for best bang for your buck for in-ear headphones?

I just picked up Bang & Olufsen H6 2nd Gen and they are outstanding. They also just dropped the price by $100 to 299. Super comfortable and great looking cans. Can't recommend them enough. Also, try looking around the web for better prices. I paid around $270/shipped for mine. LOVE THEM!

I challenge you to do much better for the price. Audio Technica make great cans.

In ears, nothing would beat the custom monitors around 500 from jh audio/westone etc. I have the westone 3s with a custom made tip, allows me to hear at a really low volume because it almost completely blocks outside sound.

Bought this tip around 200 total 4 years ago (included audiologist mold making appointments). The material softens up when in contact with skin so pretty comfy and if fit is not right, they remake the tip/molds until its perfect.

https://www.westone.com/store/music/...ter-vinyl.html

Pair that with what ever current in ear monitor you got or get one of your choice.

Other option is full customs (but zero resale value)
http://www.jhaudio.com/product/jh5-p...om-ear-monitor starts at 500$.

After breaking pretty much every pair of headphones while DJing, I reluctantly pony'd up for Beats Pros. Their aluminum construction is robust enough to finally get more than a few months out of my "work cans."

I have a pair of BOSE QC25 I use for only while traveling. They are very comfortable, and the active noise cancellation definitely reduces the fatigue of flying.

My most-used headphones are BOSE's SoundLink Bluetooth headphones. I use them every time I wash my car, or just want to listen privately around my home. Having no cord, AppleTalk, and dual-iPhone integration are pluses I really value.

I would definitely recommend Grado as the best bang for the buck but their open back and relatively delicate diaphragms just don't fit my usage pattern.

For the record I did a little shootout between my BOSE QC25 ($300) and Beats Pro ($400). The BEATS Pro played louder and is more substantial sounding. BOSE wins in comfort and accuracy between these two.

I can't stand my prescription Ultimate Ears in-ear monitors. Feels like what I imagine an anal plug feels like. They might sound good but are way too uncomfortable.

Just my $0.02.

Everyone thank you so much for the detailed and insightful responses.

Choices have come down to:

- Plantronics BackBeat PRO: $140 = I was surprised by the price, offering such as bluetooth, wireless & etc,

- Plantronics BackBeat PRO+ Wireless Noise Canceling Hi-Fi Headphones (better sound quality)

- Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7: $230

- B&O H6 (previous generation): $330

Didn't think I would be spending less, so thats a plus lol.

Would love to get some feedback from people who have used Plantronics specifically the Pro edition.

Why get the previous gen B&O H6 when the current version is so much better and the same price? Please don't say color options...
