Oil Change on 435i

I recently bought a mineral grey 435i 2014. It was a demo with 1500km on it.

So now it has 2500 km currently and a message came saying 03/2015 14000km Oil change due.

Do I ignore this message or do I take it to dealer to get oil change done? This is my very first BMW I have ever owned. (First new car for me)

P.S. I live in Canada

I got a MY 2014 335I which I bought last April. The car was brand new but had sat in the dealer showroom for a few months. I only had 7000 km on it when I took it for its first oil change. The dealer was telling me it's yoo learly yo change it due to low milage but i insisted to change the oil as almost a year had gone by and the same oil was in the engine. They finally agreed and did the oil change at no charge. My next appointment is next week and I'm gonna insist on another change as the car is telling me to do so. Take the car and change the oil and get yourself back on the cars scheduled maintenance.

Take it to the dealer for your "free" oil change. Mt dem only had 400 miles on it when purchased and shortly thereafter I was prompted for a brake fluid chane and not much later for an oil change. I imagine BMW Canada offers free maintenance so go for it.
Good luck.

Alright I will call the dealer tomorrow. Even tho I hate the fake staff there. When I got the car it had a cracked windshield they ordered the wrong one twice then after 3 weeks finally the "right" one came in. I bring in my car in the service drive thru no one came to me I had to go inside and saw 5 service advisors sitting around; They first said they had no idea what windshield I was talking about and that I had to pay for the windshield....long story short its done now.

Does the message show up when you start the engine?

Ya BMW canada has same program here although they do not cover brake jobs (pads and rotors) from what I read on this forum vs BMW usa

Not true, if you need pads and rotors in the allocated service intervals. They will replace/service it at no charge unless there is abuse to the system. I confirmed this with my SA.

Just go to the dealer and figure out what's going on. It should be free on the common oil change.

You said it's a 2014. Was it manufactured 03/2014? If it was, then the notification is probably for the 12 month complimentary oil change (irrespective of the miles). If the car's popping up a message then the service should be free if Canada has the same terms as the US.

I disagree this is the case in Canada. No-charge Scheduled Maintenance in Canada does not include brake pads and rotors:
Maintenance includes:
• Engine oil replacement
• Vehicle check service
• Air filter replacement
• Microfilter replacement
• Fuel filter replacement
• Spark plugs service / replacement
• Brake fluid service / replacement

If you wish, you can purchase BMW Service Inclusive Plus (additional cost):
In addition to the services included in your regular Scheduled Maintenance, Service Inclusive PLUS Full Maintenance includes these additional wear-and-tear repairs:
- Front Brake Pads and Discs
- Rear Brake Pads and Discs
- Clutch (if worn)
- Windshield Wiper Blades

If the iDrive shows that the oil change is due, then it should be provided by BMW Canada dealer free of charge under the No-charge Scheduled Maintenance.

Ok I'll double check, but I specificslly asked about pads and rotors and SA told me they are covered under normal use. It maybe different in BC and Alberta perhaps or I may have the additional package. Either way I'll be there Tuesday and will inquire again.

Yeah, I would get it in writing if he's agreeing to cover your rotors and pads.

I have a somewhat related question to the op. My last annual (no charge oil change) was done in July 2014. My car is now telling me I'll have to go in during May 2015 for my next oil service. Will BMW cover this even though it didn't reach the one year mark? Mileage is something like 6000 km which I know I will definitely not hit.

Yes they will provide a no charge oil change if the car is asking for it. On the annual no charge oil changes they do not reset the CBS on the car and will then do the oil change at no charge when the car asks for it regardless of how long it's been since the annual oil change.

I assume that's what mine will be like in 2 months. I would advise that you bring it in.

My best guess is that your BMW dealer will provide you with free annual oil change without any fuss based on this iDrive message. Work should be done under the included free scheduled maintenance.
Every time I am scheduling appointment for the free (included) annual oil change, the service desk rep is asking me, whether or not the message about oil change being due shows in the iDrive. That seems to be enough proof for them to bill BMW Canada for the job expense.

I would schedule the oil change regardless of the low mileage.

I am trying to make an appointment but we're playing phone tag with service advisors.
