Life will find a way -(not Jurassic Park)

To quote JP "Life will find a way"

46,000 year old worms come back to life after thawing out

Oh my golly gosh, that is so crazy, were not talking a few days or a few years but a whole 46000 years

Amazing article

https://www.theweathernetwork.com/en...ian-permafrost

Scientists from the Institute of Zoology at the University of Cologne, the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) in Dresden and the Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD), all in Germany, found that the 46,000 year old nematode, found in the Siberian Permafrost, belongs to a previously undescribed species, Panagrolaimus kolymaensis. The study is published in the journal PLOS Genetics.

I read that too and thought it was amazing! The original worm reproduced then died. It makes me think of the people who get cryogenically frozen … maybe 46,000 years from now they’ll be revived😋

It is disturbing but also kind of hilarious that a guy who is working with 46000 year old life forms in the midst of an unprecedented climate change can have this kind of myopic view of what 'imminent threat' looks like on a planet level - I mean, like, its not IMMINENT - if there's trouble, it would take months, perhaps years to develop, right?:

"However, Schiffer did not see any immediate danger that defrosted ancient organisms could harbour dangerous pathogens.

"It's something that's possible. And with COVID, we all saw what can happen very suddenly. But I wouldn't say there's like an imminent danger of these forms bring some bacteria that suddenly start killing humans," he said."

That was the first thing I thought of as well...

Man who knows what is in this things DNA, or body, anything in it we don't have any immunity to it.

I know they said they said there was no pathogens but still

I was remembering the film "Life"

100%.

My first thought always goes to smallpox and how it decimated so many populations.
