The one that got away...
Lots of new - what was your - threads popping up lately...
What was "That One" that just happened to get away from you, and you'll never be able to forget about it... Was it a fling? a date? a mate? a car? a job? a house? a stock? AND Have you ever allowed yourself to let it go? Or is there regret? |

Ok...I got so busy in the beginning of the year, I just didn't have a chance to really search for her. I do know that she is in Houston and divorced.
In the meanwhile, there has been someone with whom I have lots of friends in common. She and I started talking as friends and progressed to the point that we decided to spend time together. She is about 16 years younger than me, is a fitness model and works in architecture. We decided to spend time together in August and spent about 10 days with each other. Since then, she has been back here about 4 more times for a a week to 10 days at a time. I'm pretty happy and so is she. She's 5'-3", 114#, blonde hair, green eyes. The one from Houston whom I was in college and grad school is the opposite and the last time I saw her about 20 years ago but back then she was, 5'-8", 125 or so with brown hair and hazel eyes. Choices, choices.

My most memorable "one that got away" is from my early music career. In about 1985 a really talented but fairly unknown young drummer invited me to form a band with him. I politely declined, since I was already in 2 fairly promising bands and I secretly didn't think he was cool enough to be in a band with fabulous, wonderful, sexy me.
That young drummer was none other than Michael Bland. So...not one of my better career decisions.

Not a person or object per se.
I lost that loving feeling. In all seriousness, what got away from me was the sense of family. Rough childhood and our "family" was about as broken as one could possibly be. As a small child, I wanted my own family so I didn't have the same issues; I wanted to be the Dad and do it the way I felt it should be done. I truly enjoyed being married. The domesticated shit, shopping for furniture, kids clothes, hauling the kids around and spending time with them, late night movie marathons, making beds in the floor of my office, for when they were sick and I couldn't miss work, impromptu wrestling matches, teaching them how to do things, etc......you know, dad shit. The kids are now adults and have become professional smart asses. Two wives have come and gone. Yep, the family life got away from me. |

The one that got away from me is that sense of happiness. Today is so monotonous. Ever since March, its wake up go to work eat lunch, go home, eat dinner and go to bed....repeat.
The desire to be out in a masked world of restrictions just isn't appealing. I hate feeling introverted like this and I am Florida. If you came to visit here from other places in the country you wouldn't know there was a Pandemic |

Now that shit is out of the way; I dated a girl back in 2008 or 2009, that I met in a bar in Nashville while there on business. We began a very odd yet fulfilling relationship of sorts. At the time, I stayed in Nashville 3 days/week. Anytime that I was in Nashville she would come stay the 3 days with me in my hotel. Things happened and it didn't last long; but for the time that it lasted, we both created a bond that neither of us could deny. We've talked about it since then and both agreed that neither of us has felt that connection since.
Back story on her: 6' something, slender, brunette, blue eyes and was formerly a model. I don't remember the year but she was in a Hooters calendar......like, on the front of it. One of the coolest people I've ever met. |

I have a few.... nothing major... not now... and NO REGRETS...
I am who I am because of who I've been... and who knows who I'd be if I weren't me??? One of the biggest wasn't really 'she got away' as much as me just being young and dumb and ignorant... In college, I really liked this one gal.... really liked her.... so much so that I was like back in Jr High School or something... sweaty palms, never knew how to form a sentence, over thought every single moment we were around each other... you know the drill... We were somewhat friends... more like friendly acquaintances I suppose.. I'd FINALLY built up enough nerve that I was going to let her know how special I thought she was, and was going to ask her out on a real date. Literally - almost like when Ross was going to tell Rachel that he didn't want her to leave to Paris, and then Gunther jumped in front of him and did the same thing - kind of thing... we were all hanging out one night.. and my buddy called her aside... told her how special she was, and how he couldn't stop thinking about her and blah blah blah... He would share with me some of her little quirks that only the boyfriend would know and appreciate.... everything sounded like we would have really hit it off had I not been so awkward and afraid... (afraid of what - i have no idea - sigh) Long story short.... I had to leave their wedding early, because I felt like such a heel... Their marriage didn't last... but did long enough to start a family, etc etc. Big house, white picket fence, 2.3 kids and a dog... lol. No clue where either of them are today. But I do still think about what may have been from time to time. |
