F30 base with NBT Retrofit - What USB Devices work in armrest?

Hi all,
I recently installed an HU_NBT retrofit (Thanks CodeMyBimmer!) and am playing around with connecting a usb storage device to the armrest console USB port.

The device i have is a USB3 mSata enclosure with a 256gb mSATA SSD in it, mainly because it's tiny, flexible, high capacity, and i had it lying around.

i've tried formatting as NTFS and exFAT, and each time the USB connection says "Not Supported".

Does anyone know if there are limitations on hardware type or revision with this? Can i not go higher than USB2, or a certain filesystem (please not FAT32) or a certain capacity that the computer in the NBT can address? I've perused but can't find a clear cut answer.

Thanks!

Try FAT32 on the device and see what happens. Yes, I know you might not want to hear that.

Stupid question, did you install the new USB cable with the retrofit? Or if you used the existing cable did you modify it to work with the NBT?

He suggested that USB3 may not be supported ... i have a hard time with that though because it's backward compatible and should function at USB2 parameters.

His reply:
Hey Chris,

I was able to do that a while back with an older usb 2.0 1TB drive back in 2014.

I think if it’s usb 3.0, it might not be supported.

It could also be that the newer bmw firmware may have disabled it.

Hope this helps

I'm going to have to try some different devices and see what I can figure out.

Just confirmed that the usb memory stick that I recently used to update maps in my NBT unit with no issue was USB 3.0.

I use daily a USB3 NTFS pendisk.
Does NBT support more than 1 USB cable?
