Should I get a Porsche 997 Turbo or Audi R8?

I am looking for a little advice/experience/knowledge. I live in Germany and wanted to get a European spec car to take back with me to the states once my time here is done. I have narrowed my choices down to a 997 Porsche Turbo vs Audi R8. Both will be close in years, mileage, HP, and price.

997 turbo for me, it’s ideal size and performance. But if you want something that looks a bit more exotic then go R8.

If it's the R8 with the 4.2 V8, go Porsche. If it's the V10, still Porsche

When I buy cars i try to look at long term resale value. But that's just me. The R8 is a very cool car, but it will depreciate faster then the 911 Turbo. So Porsche wins for me, especially if its a 997.2.

I don't know WHAT it is but I cannot warm to the 997 turbo. It may well just be the proliferation of ATROCIOUS interiors that seem to reside in them. Porsche's beige is hideous and poorly executed and the red is absolutely atrocious. The grey looks like taxicab vinyl leaving only black as a viable option and on the turbo models i dunno, the black always looks a bit more plush and less sporty than the base or S.

If you can live with the attention, got the R8, it will attract a lot of police and gawkers though, it ain't subtle.

if i d have to go with one these..

its a bit slower but R8 V10 without the roof sounds phenomenal with a manual transmission.. this combination deserves a manual transmission, pure joy.. and its a tail happy car as well.. having a mid-engine car is something special at the same time.. i d go for R8 V10 unless Porsche d be at least a GT3..

I see that you have a M2 also. Why you want another turbo car? Of course porsche is really something else but I would buy at least GT3 price range shouldnt be difference. But at the end its your choice just be smart and good luck..

I think at some point I will let my M2 go. This selection will be a longterm investment

May I suggest the 997 GTS? Good companion to the M2 you have with different powerplant feel.

I'd love a V8 R8 but that's just me.

funny enough I am also a current m2 owner is contemplating adding an r8 v10 manual to the stable...

R8 V8 manual all the way

the 997.2 turbo is absolutely uninspiring to me, very poor sound quality and turbo lag

the r8 v8 6mt comes with awsome sound looks and a gated shifter! it's slower sure, but it's fast enough

Both great cars but first gen R8 is a special car and still looks like a new Supercar.

997 is obviously also good design but it blends in much more and interior design is very dated. I think 997 GT3 is a better comparison.

I would take the R8.

R8 -- more comfy, better interior, naturally aspirated sound, turns more heads, doesn't look as dated as the 997. MR > RR. But its very slow by todays standards. power and weight of an e92 m3.

997 - better performance, few bolt ons and you've got well over 500whp. larger aftermarket support and community.

I'd probably go R8, if no v10 at least get a supercharger for the v8.

I have a 997.1 turbo with 6-speed manual. You won’t be disappointed.

911 turbo. Better quality car, better interior by FAR, and better performance by a lot. PDK or Porsches manual gearbox are better than either manual or dsg in the Audi.

The first gen R8s IMO are still great looking. The interiors are a big let down for me though.

997TT all the way. 997 is more and more likely the last raw 911 thats more sports car than GT. Im fortunate to have one in the fam so to speak and get to enjoy often. Its a beast!
