AI speed cameras can ‘see inside your car’

New AI speed cameras can ‘see inside your car’
Jul 14 2024
New AI speed cameras being rolled out on UK roads can "see inside your car" and recognise "every passenger" before sending pictures of them to the police.
The devices will be able to work out whether or not you're wearing a seatbelt or using a phone and can even be used to check who is behind the wheel.
Using multiple lenses and AI tech, the cameras automatically analyse the images they capture for driving offences.
If any are detected, the image will be saved and sent off immediately to the police force responsible for that stretch of road.
This includes offences committed by passengers, such as distracting the driver through mobile phone use.
This could see more drivers receiving fines, licence points and bans for crimes that would previously have gone undetected.
A trial of similar tech in Cornwall last year saw a whopping 300 Brits caught out within just three days.
The RAC has backed the move, saying that a "lack of enforcement" was making UK roads more dangerous for law-abiding drivers.
"The police can’t be everywhere all of the time, so it makes sense that forces look to the best available technology that can help them catch drivers acting illegally."

Might be new in the UK, we’ve had cams like this in Australia for ages.

This should imply precautions the police won't recognize your passengers.

Wearing a muzzle behind the wheel isn't stupid compared to AI.

Passengers should distract drivers displaying what they've got live, of course! "Whatever you do, don't look down!"

This appears to mean being a law-abiding driver is dangerous in UK. And they miss enforcement.

You love headlines

There are people on here for 15 years and has helped with hundreds of problems. These people don't have anywhere near as many reputation points as you.

For someone who has been here for a year, you have a lot of reputation points

Just for regurgitating headlines.

I just don't understand.

I could care less about reputation points but if I post things that make people think then it's all good to me.

The old "well if I'm not doing anything wrong, what do I have to worry about".

I cannot stand those types of people.

They've been around since the dawn of time. That's why we end up in endless cycles of war, murder, slavery, etc..

They always think they're enlightened too.

As you know , here in Belgium we're in the same boat (actually in the 5H1T)!

The latest AI speed cams (flexi-flash-cams) with the well known AI technology.
The thing can catch (scan) 4 lanes at the same time , and it can see who is in the car , the passengers included ...

The thing can see what you are doing in your car (!)
But watch out , if you are scratching your ear or head . The thing thinks you are on the phone behind the wheel .
The result is a 800 Euro fine and your driver license is gone for 4 weeks (!)

GOD bless the English blade runners !

A lot of the intended benefits of these laws are things any sane person should agree with:
Not wearing seat belts.
Not talking on a hand held phone.
Not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Distracted driving gets a little dicey on definition.
The issue is really one of privacy rights. This is clearly surveillance. Is police or government spying on you while driving any different than spying on you in your house of place of business?
I seldom agree with the ACLU on anything but they have taken a clear stand against AI-powered camera surveillance.

California has a very effective program of getting people to snitch on neighbors for not following their water mandates, emissions mandates, etc. These people can't wait to eat you out and collect some cash for their trouble.

As sad as it is, people will snitch on their neighbors even if they know it means their neighbors are going to be killed. History has shown us that many, many times. Hell it was t that long ago people were snitching on their neighbors for having birthday parties and funerals. People find it very easy to convince themselves snitching on their neighbors is the morally just thing to do.

These are all clearly lies. We all live in westernized first world countries not in police states like China or North Korea!

Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia
