Strange thing. I just got my electric bill and the supply rate actually dropped 4 cents per kWh from last months bill. My usage was slightly less but my bill dropped almost $40.

I'm about to renew my Power contract. Here in most of Texas we get to choose our provider. Prices have gone up quite a bit from 2 years back. I need to decide do I only go for 1 year and pay a few mode cents now hoping things will come down in 12 months or save that by signing a 24 month contract guessing that they increase.

Those are pretty hefty. When were their last increases? What mandates exist there (renewables, energy efficiency spend) that could contribute to their revenue need?
I suspect they had large losses during covid due to payment moratoria, which they will never collect (at least some of). Experiencing inflation in key materials (wire, transformers) and labor. Fuel I presume is already a pass-thru so not a part of this request. Also whether they are using a historic test year or forecast test year could play into the amount of increase requested. Forecast would include the full inflation hit. If historic, I’d bet they’ll have another request in a year or so, because they won’t get current inflation included. |

This is from 2020: The State Public Service Commission voted 4-to-1 on Thursday to allow Con Ed to raise rates over the next three years. Residential customers will pay 13.5 percent more for electric by 2022. The electric rate will rise 4.2 percent this year, 4.7 percent next year, and four percent in 2022. Every major business is benefiting from this so called inflation while the rest of us lose value in any savings we have. |

I just got my natural gas bill and compared it to the same period last year. It was only slightly higher this year for slightly less usage. My heating system is gas, so my usage this time of the year is very low. BUT I did notice that the gas supply charge increased considerably. Last year it was $0.528 per therm and this year it's $1.123 per therm. That's more than double.
It's going to be a brutal winter for those struggling. Happy Monday, boys and girls.

I topped off my propane tank, which is only used for my gas fireplace, which can heat my whole home in power outages. I keep my house cooler and use the fireplace to heat the living area during the evenings to a comfortable temp. I just did the "summer fill up" program which used to be under a buck per gallon - about $0.90-$0.99 usually. It was $1.89 this year. But after getting caught short this spring when winter would not give up the ghost and I had to buy a min fill at $2.79 - I took it. Should last me 2 winters at normal winter usage though.

Also, supply is prioritized for home heating, so in there are severe shortages (extreme cold), industry and then power production could be curtailed. Winter natural gas supply shortages are a serious problem. Hopefully we will get through this winter without extremes. |

I have the option to lock in the propane rate for the year that spans through the heating season. I did so over the summer and thought I might have made a mistake by locking in so soon as gas prices were falling. I think I might have made the right decision. I locked in at $3.44. And I also can't shop around for a cheaper supplier; nor the community. The current supplier has an exclusive contract as they're the ones that put in the tanks. Blows. But it is what it is. |
