Agree, I love the red and blue options, and I think all black will be a very stealthy look, especially with the thin and long DRL's contrasting it. Plus the suede and semi-aniline seats look great.

Official: Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Engines Will Be Handbuilt
Quote:
It’s a well-known fact that the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing super sedan will have GM’s supercharged 6.2-liter V8. However, unlike many engines in passenger vehicles at the moment, the LT4 units in the CT5-V Blackwing will be built by hand; each receiving the same workmanship by a single operator in the Performance Build Center at the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky.

Most gearheads will know that the small-block LT4 isn’t new territory for General Motors. It’s previously been used in hot rods such as the third-generation Cadillac CTS-V sedan, the Chevy Corvette C7 Z06, and the Chevy Camaro ZL1 – it’s even expected to make an appearance in the Cadillac Escalade-V. Regardless, the hand-built unit in the Blackwing will be more powerful than ever with 668 horsepower (498 kilowatts) and 659 pound-feet (893 newton-meters) of torque on tap.

With just a single builder for each engine, this means that whoever was in charge gets to put their name on the engine; GM machined a small spot on the supercharger lid where the name plaque will reside. While it may seem like an automotive party trick, this addition does add a personal touch to each vehicle – which doesn’t go amiss nowadays.

Aside from being the most powerful Cadillac ever produced, the stout V8 will catapult the super sedan to 60 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 3.7 seconds. After completing the climb to highway speed, GM Authority reports that the Blackwing will have a top speed of around 200 mph (322 km/h).

GM Design Team Unveils More Cadillac Blackwing Interior Details In New Photos
Quote:
The General Motors Design team has released a series of new photos showing some additional interior details in the two Cadillac Blackwing sedans.

These photos focus on the various intricate, high-quality interior details of the Cadillac Blackwing sedans, like the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing‘s available carbon fiber accented racing seats, which feature prominently in the newly released gallery.

The optional lightweight seats build on the vehicle’s motorsports-inspired feel and feature exposed carbon backrests with silver V-Series logos, stitched leather upholstery with perforated leather accents, white piping and contrasting red and white stitching. The seats are optional on the CT5-V Blackwing and will not be offered on the smaller CT4-V Blackwing.

Another component that sets the Cadillac Blackwing interiors apart from regular Cadillac V-Series models and also features in this new photo set is the high-performance steering wheel. The wheel, which has carbon fiber accents, a serialized plaque and magnesium shift paddles, comes standard on the CT5-V Blackwing and is optional on the CT4-V Blackwing. The available steering wheel is also good for those who want to do track days or other high-performance driving events with the vehicle, as it provides quick access to the V-Mode button and Performance Traction Management Switch.

This gallery also gives us an up-close look at the ways GM designers mixed different materials in the Cadillac Blackwing interiors to achieve a high-end look. For example, the high-performance steering wheel features leather, thick contrasting stitching, carbon fiber trim and brushed aluminum trim, all butted up together within a fairly small space. The seats also use two different kinds of leather upholstery (stitched and perforated), three different stitch colors (black white and red) and two different trim types (gloss black plastic and carbon fiber). This unique blend of materials was put together by Nault West and Dominic Dowling, who are both color, material and finish designers (CMF) at GM Advanced Design.

The 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing will enter production this July at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan.

The Black Raven Exterior should look mean with all the black trim/wheels and carbon fiber. I'm very curious to see what the Dark Emerald Green will look like. Overall a really nice choice of colors, hard to pick just one!

Dammit, the green might have been cool, but it's matte, so it sucks. Matte needs to die.

I wonder why Cadillac only gets 668hp out of a 6.2L V8?
BMW's much smaller 4.4L V8 puts out 617hp. For a whopping 1.8L larger engine, the CT5 should be in at least the 850hp range.

What am I missing?

Far more differences than just displacement. Cadillac has a 6.2 ohv supercharged engine and BMW's is a twin turbo overhead cam. Superchargers have some benefits of instant reaction, turbo chargers normally can hit higher peaks but tuned and sized to do this can leave you with turbo lag (pressing the accelerator and waiting for them to come on).

Also add that increase displacement isn't a linear increase in hp. There are 400 hp 2.0 liter engines but I don't think you see 800 hp 4 liter production engines.

M5 Competition will definitely win the acceleration race, partly for the hp, partly for the AWD. It also costs a huge amount more, I think likely not any more fun to drive, Cadillac is likely to come out far ahead on long term costs/hassles as the there isn't anything really special or difficult to deal with on the engine. I doubt with RWD that if the Cadillac had more hp there would be enough benefit to deal with the extra cost and hassles. The ZR1 did have 755 hp from the same displacement, much larger supercharger.

I much prefer the silence of turbos.

DOHC vs pushrod. Chevy is taking the pushrod engine to the extreme. The benefits are low cg, lower weight, much more compact engine. With the displacement that big, it makes great torque below the curve in NA form. Compare that with many smaller displacement DOHC engines that produce far less torque. Good example was the M3 V8, less than 300. There are some ways to get the torque up other than super/turbo charging, but they generally include revving very high and more exotic materials and more failure points, not to mention still relatively low torque at low rpm. DOHC tends to be capable of more hp and torque, but giant DOHC engines take up too much space and FI can really take it to the next level. Pushrod is kind of Chevrolet’s specialty and they kind of defy the logic of what should be outdated, but the benefits of packaging and simplicity are hard to deny (like LS3, LT1). I have the LT1 in an SS 1LE and it’s a great torque monster. Nothing NA really compares (except a few more exotic things like LS7) and it does better NA than many turbo cars with lots of torque. Massive torque from displacement at low rpm. There comes a point though if you want more that you have to go FI. The amount of area under the curve with some of these turbo 600+tq cars these days is insane. Off the line and especially with AWD, they will win the straight line all the time.

The reason turbos are “silent” is that manufactures build baffles in the intake system that work to silence them. You’d sound like a wrx racer boy with a loud aftermarket BOV if they didn’t have this.

The modern super chargers have clutches that disengage when not being used for acceleration.

All very good points. The 6.2 pushrod doesn't rev too high (6500 rpm redline), but has many of the advantages you listed. Livernois Motorsports makes a cam/head package for the LT motors which bring them to almost 600hp at the crank in NA form. Great motors for sure, chances are I will own one in a few months.

A Cadillac rocking the Subaru WRC color theme is not something I thought I'd see, but I kind of like it.
