I'll say it once... I'll say it twice-
Haldex AWD system 4 banger If those don't bother u, then go for it... at a 40K price range for a hot hatch, they bother me extremely. |

$40k is a little insane for a VW Golf

Theyre not asking 40k for it, theyre looking for mid 20s so the price is reasonable. The car had been modded before but to some degree has been returned to stock. Itll have a 4yr 100000 mile warranty on it still however.
I am also considering the WRX, theres also a Audi TTS not far away for the same price but is a few years older and no 3rd pedal and then maybe a newer style Mustang GT. The Golf is really appealing to me because it is somewhat a sleeper out of the group. Also, I have 0 familiarity with Haldex AWD, is there anything I should be concerned about? |

That was for the RWD because I wanted a manual. The 330 x-drive with the "high tech" AWD system is only available in automatic and costs $53k! Sorry, but even at $40K the Golf R is a bargain.

Maybe it's because it's my first automatic car, but I absolutely detest the DSG in my CC R-line. I've learned to cope with it but there is simply no substitute for a manual transmission. I got mine because I was commuting to midtown Manhattan quite often but that changed last year and now I'm stuck riding out another year on the lease with this miserable DSG. My car is also APR tuned with the Carbonio intake.

Every time I shift my car manually on my ride home, it stinks of clutch when I park in my garage. Not beating on the car in any way.

Very odd. I had no issues with DSG + awd at 500 hp (maybe 400 lbft of tq) with 100's of laps on road courses until I took it to the 1/4 mile. Even then it went 10.9 going into limp around half track.
That said, I still prefer manual but if you think a vag dsg is bad with tq capacity and clutches wait until you try it with a 6mt. They won't hold the stock tq for much more than 80k and tuned they're much worse. |

both great cars, but it depends on if you really want AWD or RWD. If you want to deal with the extra moving parts i would say go for it. Otherwise, just stick with BMW and get something non-turbo

It's supply and demand. They won't discount the car because they don't need to.

When I bought my GTI in 2015 the dealership I bought my car from was $1,700 cheaper than the next lowest price. This is on a $28K MSRP car.

I got over $8,000 knocked off my CC R-line as well ($36k MSRP) but dealers are not inclined to discount the R in any way. You could probably find a dealer willing to give you a few hundred off but nothing that would move the needle very much. Dealers are flooded with dozens of GTIs while they only get a handful of Golf Rs in a year.

Earlier this year when the lease was finishing up on my 2013 135is, I was looking hard at a Golf R. I also had an old Grand Cherokee I drove in the winter and I was looking to sell that, turn in the 135is, and go back down to 1 year-round car. The dealbreaker on the Golf R for me was no sunroof. For whatever reason you can get a sunroof on a Golf and a GTI but not the R. Otherwise it's a nice car.
