PS3 60GB The Best?
im looking to buy a ps3. its between the 60gb/80gb. but is 60gb the best model they made?
http://boardsus.playstation.com/play...ead.id=2123833 the 60gb can play more prevoius games and based on the linky above the 80 gb doesn't have the backwards capability from keeping costs low on the ps3. any ideas? i have a opened and tested ps3 on ebay askin $435 shipped. |

Yea 60gb is the best because its compatible with the PS2 games. and i dont think the 80gb can play PS2 games, but 60gb is still a lot, so i wouldnt buy the 80gb one because i own a 360 and even if i try i cant fill the 20gb HDD!

The newer PS3 doesn't have hardware compatibility with previous PS systems, but I thought it handled the older software via emulation?
I have the 60 GB version, but I find that I don't use it for anything more than playing Blu-Ray movies and the occasional PS2 game. When the firmware came out that allowed streaming video and audio from a network server, i was pretty pleased. In actuality, there are so many unsupported file types and bugs, that I gave up using the PS3 to stream over the network. With the purchase of a new iMac, I transferred my MacBook Pro to my entertainment center. Now the PS3 is primarily just a DVD/Blu-Ray/SACD player. |

60gb is the safest bet.
as far as backwards compatibility (BC), all 20gb, 60gb, and 80gb are backwards compatible. the 20 and 60 are for sure BC with all ps1 and ps2 games, but with the 80gb, it's more like the xbox and deals with an emulator processor...meaning that you must download the lastest software to be able to play most games on the ps1 and ps2, and not all games will work on it. sony just released a new 40gb...only plays ps3 games, movies (not sure about dvds) and perhaps ps1 games...but ps2 games are definitely out of the question...that's why it's priced so cheap. if you have a ps1 or ps2 game that you want to play on your ps3 but just not sure about it, just go to the sony website and they have a page where you can check it it'll work or not.. hope that helps. |

Where is that deal? Saw that at bestbuy.com, free controller or heavenly sword. But they sold out. I would have bought it for sure, but my CC points gift certificates have not come yet.

I have the 60 also.. I probably only have 8 gigs used and thats with my music on it.. You really have to be hard core to fill up a 60 gig...
Personally if I had to do it again I would buy an xbox since it has more game titles and as of right now xbox is getting the new games months before they are out on ps3.. Yet then again my friend has an xbox so I go to his place and play it and he comes to mien to play the PS3, one thing I notice is the xbox is loud and tends to crash after 2-3 hours of game play and xbox live is a PITB sometimes. |

The 60GB PS3 plays PS2 games using some hardware chip. In the 80gb, its software emulation based, no chip. The only PS2 game I played on my PS3 was GT4, and that was just to compare the graphics between that and GT5 prologue

after shopping around and much thought i don't think i will be getting the 60gb. at first i wanted the 60 gb for the extra 2 usb ports and media card slot. but all the ps3 have the same performance right? only difference is how much backward compatability they have and hard drive size?
if so i think the 20gb is the best for me. what you guys think? |

as far as hd, i believe you can just buy a new one and swap them out, one of the biggest diff with the 20gb is lack of wifi, so if you don't mind not being able to play online and not being able to upgrade your software, then you're fine.

Wifi adds latency, don't know why anyone would prefer it. Heck I would wire up even if I had wifi.

o my bad yea the 40gb. instead of buying from store and pay 8% tax im going to buy from newegg and pay $15 sum for 3 day fedex shipping.
i learned that you can hook up a 4 port usb hub and even a usb media reader and it will be way cheaper then a 60gb or the 80gb. |

check this link out. it provides a good review of the 40GB sub-$400 unit as well as some basic comparisons with other PS3s.
