BMW E60 520i K-can problems and DME failure

Hi,

I've seen a lot of people already have posted numerous problems with the k-can network but I couldn't find one like this.

This 520i has really intermittend central electronics failure. When this occurs, de gauges wil go crazy, every lights under the sun comes up, the ccc screen strats flickering. And it happens quiten often. But when i delete the fault codes, it is possible that the car is fault free for a couple of days before they come back. Really frustrating when searching for a problem that disapears when you are looking for it.

so i have tried a lot of things. Boot is dry and the PDC and MPM are in good condition. Seat modules have been unplugged for a couple of days and faults still came back. Battery is new. Alternator show 14V reading ln idle. There was a parrot system installed but this is currently removed. I checked the K-can with a scope and it looked really good. The only remark is that when the bus goes in sleep mode the voltage of the CAN high settles at 8.2V.

And now that the weather is getting colder, it seems that even the DME has failed. The owner had already told me that the car would stall 1 or 2 times when the weather was cold. After that, the car would run great.

But now the car won't start anymore and I have the following fault codes in the DME:

- 2796: DME: Throttle: adaptation values incorrect
- 2830: DME: DME selt-test: checksum
- 28B2: DME: Speed limitation: reset

When this problem started happening I started having trouble reading the car. When I opened ista or inpa and tried reading the car, only a couple of modules would show up. sometimes 2, 3, all of them or sometimes I can't even read the vin number. Is there any way that this can be caused by the DME (which I highly doubt) or is there any way that a failed gateway wouldn't have any fault cause but caused the no start condition and the fault codes above in the DME? Has anyone ever had this problem before?

you need to specify date of manufacture or VIN to better understand your engine and electronic architecture because e60 undergone two major upgrade during its lifetime
and the second the post in 3-er series forum and you need to move this topic to 5-er or e60 series section
