Post 1991 E31 850i

Hello. I'm new here

I recently purchased a 850i and the previous owner had some modifications done to it. I want to revert it back to OEM as much as possible while doing small tweaks here and there to make it a more drive-able vehicle.

5L V12, 6mt, with an LSD. Those are the basics. It came with "Deep dish Momo wheels" Pictures attached.

I'm not at all familiar with 90s BMW "stuff". Are these wheels decent? should I be looking for something that fits more readily available tire sizes?

Congrats and condolences.
Congrats on a cool car.
Condolences to your wallet, as all new E31 and E32 parts will be priced *10x by BMW, if even if available. Literally.

The answer will be highly subjective.
They are definitely NOT stock.
However, if they are round and manage to keep the air in the tires, they are better than nothing already.

Congrats on starting at the beginning - identifying what tires you want to ride on and THEN finding the wheels that will keep them round for you. Most folks go the other way - buy blingy wheels, and then find out that you might be SOL on tires in that fitment.

Depending on your budget and intended purposes, either getting OEM wheels (or clones), forged wheels (for durability and performance), or any wheels that fit desirable set of tires (summer performance? winters?). That would be the most reasonable starting point.

HTH,

HTH,

Thanks for the heads up. I had it PPI'd and according to the mechanic, it's in a fairly good shape, all things considered. It's at the dealer right now getting safetied which is mandatory in Ontario.

Mechanically, the car is great. It does have a bunch of non critical issues but it seems manageable. Here's the PPI report:

"Steering wheel has play up and down, headliner sagging, horn not working, windshield washer sprayers weak pressure, 2 front jack pads missing, trunk liners redone, tires out of date (2012), FR tie rod end play, FR wheel bearing play, Front right and left thrust arms worn, upgraded sway bars front and rear, engine oil leak potentially from upper oil pan, rear left lower ball joint boot split, rear muffler rust holes, left rear shock mount previously repaired, fuel filters dated 2006, front left and right door paint bubbling, front right fender repainted, front bumper lip painted, valve cover gaskets x2 leaking, drivers seat bottom rear portion not operating, passenger seat lower bottom twist, front to rearward motors on passenger seat slow, passenger seat not folding forward, pass strut tower bolts potentially redrilled or slotted to fit shock"

I looked at this site to determine original wheel size and specs, I hope it's correct:

https://www.wheel-size.com/size/bmw/8-series/1991/

"7.5Jx16 ET15
Center Bore / Hub Bore: 72.5 mm
Bolt Pattern (PCD): 5x120
Wheel Fasteners: Lug bolts
Thread Size: M12 x 1.5"

I need to determine the max tire size I can fit without rubbing, then I'll look for wheels.

Cheers.

I decided on 18x8.5 fronts and 18x9.5 rears. I have a friend that is sponsored by Superspeed so we can order the wheels and test fitment. Debating between A-S 4 or EC DWS 06 Plus for longevity.

Congrats! I remember seeing one while passing a dealership in the early 2000s. I turned in and parked my MKIII Toyota Supra next to it and took a pic, since they look related.
